What I'd like to know is the missing step in the painting. Not the gold trim or decals or purity seals, but on the armor itself. Because last we saw it there were still large sections of black and then when it's all finished those black sections of the armor are suddenly blue as well. Like I know this sounds like a stupid question. But did you just go over the darker sections with the second blue until it took? How many layers if so? Because from the sound of what you said you wanted to leave those areas dark but then when you show the final piece it all looks relatively like the same shade with shadows cast from the overhead light..

If you don't have an airbrush, you could always mix a tint into a paint pot until you get the desired colour.

Callum Fyfe The Colour Company 'Tamiya' also sell Metallic Colour Sprays. Thats how I painted my 30k Alpha Legion Force without an Airbrush.

I've very recently gotten some Necron models, and I'm thinking of painting them in a metallic-ish colour, like if Leadbelcher was green or blue instead of iron. As I'm using Citadel colours, normal brushes and haven't gotten around to getting a wet palett yet, I'm wondering if painting them with either leadbelcher or a metallic silver, then applying a shade like Biel-tan Green or contrast like Aerthermatic Blue could work?

Old comment, but I hope I can spread some knowledge either way. That will work. I paint my golds in a similiar fashion. First I paint all the metal with Leadbelcher, then drybrush Stormhost Silver on all surfaces I wanted to be highlighted(usually the parts of the model facing upwards). Initially I used the Seraphim Sepia shade to tint the metal. This required several thin layers to get really good coverage, but it worked wonderfully at giving the metal a bit more matte golden finish. Lately I have transitioned to using Aggaros Dunes contrast thinned down with contrast medium for the same effect. Contrast had the same effect, but with much better coverage as it actually sticks to surfaces better. Hope this helps!

Nice man I didn't know about ghost tints. Do you still recommend them? Also how does midnight blue look over silver? Is it midnight or blue?

Ghost tints are the bomb! highly recommend. The midnight blue tint is black, so it would probably make the silver look a bit darker.

Not at all ^^ It is True metallic style. Non metallic is composed of grey, for steel and silver, with gradients.

I would desperately want to know how to make metallic colours without the use of an airbrush If anyone knows, Simply mixing the colours doesn't produce the best outcome

SolarColorDust.com make all sorts of pigments that can be added to a medium like lahmian medium. They have some cool metallic and chameleon pigments. Not tried them yet personally though. Not sure what else to suggest other than maybe just mixing metallic paints with regular colours, or using shades over metallics.

GW now does those tiny pots of very strong tints, designed for adding to other pots of colours rather than pallet mixing. Mixing some of that through a pot of silver may work?

Ashley Newman Vallejo has a metallic medium that works perfect with any acrylic paint.

@@TheCimbrianBull most the metalic mediums will give you the metal color,but they have a light base so ,the lighten your color,so you really have to do some good mixing to get the desired tint you want
