I have been painting, off and on, for about 40 years. I recently started watching your videos, and I decided to try using mediums (and highlight sauce). These changes have been gamechangers. I don't know if my work has improved, but I feel more confident, especially with the feel of the paint. P.S. I like the new graphics. They help keep everything clear and easy to follow.

I've bought plenty of used miniatures from Ebay where I wish someone had followed the "2 thin coats" rule. Especially with Citadel paints straight out of the pots, it is very easy to smear on thick gobs of paint as a beginner. This is a good rule of thumb for beginners to avoid this while you are learning about the different paint dilutions and uses.
@DonSuratos2 жыл бұрын
Straight from the pot or dropper is crazy thick. It is actually hard to paint like that in my opinion. ☺️🎨🎨🎨
@NatsurinChannel2 жыл бұрын
Hi I really liked your video! Very informative. I want to know what you were using to thin the paints for the base coats.
@DonSuratos2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think I used thinner medium here. I usually prefer mediums over water when thinning my paints. Cheers! ☺️🎨🎨🎨
@fthat54422 жыл бұрын
I always had a problem with people who think two thin coats was dogma. hahaha. But yes, the quality of your paints is key.
@DonSuratos2 жыл бұрын
Haha. Yes it is not, BUT I think Duncan just made sure that beginners won't paint too thickly. However, if you use good paints and know your paints, 1 thick ( thinned ) coat is fine. ☺️🎨🎨🎨

i liked the ratio grafix, its easier for beginers to understand. did u tryed gw contrast or army painter speedpaints? they can be a very powerful tool (and i mean not that way gw and army painter wants u to use them). its sad that vallejo dont have them, mybe they already work on bringing them, hopefully 😄

Hey Don, you mentioned you still use water with your glaze medium for basecoating. Do you load the brush with every dip of the paint/medium mix and wick, or do you just keep your brush waterwet between paintloading?

New graphics makes it very easy to understand/see for everybody. So thumbs up on that! Been using only water to dillute my paints for the last 30+ years, and it's only recently, when I got back into painting, that I started using mediums. My go to though isn't glaze medium, it's retarder. Why? I don't really know, guess I just appreciate the fact that paint, especially white, doesn't dry on the tip and it flows as easily as any other colour. That said, and this is also a question. I have tried using Vallejo's retarder medium (sorry, but AK my go to brand here), but it's so d*rn thick it's impossible to use. :( While Vallejo's page doesn't mention it, is it's supposed to be thinned before usage? That said, I have been playing around with Glaze medium last months, so might end up using it on a proper model sometime soon^^ Oh, regarding the video itself. Clear and to the point! Great work (-:

Any tips for painting a storm-elemental that is like dark gray & blue/purple on the outside but has bright lightning comming from inside and reflecting this on the exterior of the mini?
@DonSuratos2 жыл бұрын
Just paint the blue purple as normal, then thin gloss white into wash consistency and wash all over the model. You may then glaze a bit with the blue purple, then another white wash to ceratin areas to show intensity. ☺️
