How to paint miniatures for beginners. Painting Wizkids HD miniatures.
First time painting a miniature? This video is for you?
I tried to make this video of this painting of a Wizkids HD miniature as basic as I can. I did not use my Redgrass wet palette, no Redgrass handle, no kolinsky brushes ( at the start ) and no mediums, just Philippine water. This miniature painting video is the most basic miniature painting I have done. Hopefully beginners and specially first time miniature painters will find this video helpful or informative.

A tip I usually suggest to new painters is to practice on cheap green army men (I do not know if you have those in the Philippines). Green army men are really inexpensive and they are larger than our typical figures so they are good practice. Their details are not as sharp. I still use them when I want to try new techniques. Another thing I do is I use separate water for metallic and non-metallic paints. This helps keep the metallic flakes out of the non-metallic colours. That's it, pancit.

Been mini painting only a few years now and after watching this video my initial reaction was meh, didn't learn anything new... but I just tried pre-wetting before applying wash and it worked well. Gong to have to add that tool in my belt. Thanks Don!

I have another tip that helped myself into hobby - find local 3d print service (using local forums, facebook, modelling groups and ebay-like platforms near you) and print a dirty cheap model that you LOVE. The most important part to get into a hobby (like I did) it has to be something you are VERY interested. Cyberpunk, warhammer, fantasy, DND, army models - pretty much anything. Green army men or plastic animals from toy stores a good alternatives but you will be much less motivated! P.s. Also you could try to buy already printed model of thematics you love!

Oh thanks! Any hobby acrylic paint would do, just be wary of the cheaper acrylic paints labeled as hobby paints. 😉🎨🎨🎨

I really enjoyed this. A well done back to basics, entry level introduction to figure painting. Even as someone who has painted fantasy miniatures for years I still like to see videos like this with painters that show their techniques that got them started. Even others "basic" techniques may be something new to experienced figure painters to add to their knowledge. Or it may be a good way to get someone to review their methods at the "basics" level and refresh.

the way I like explaining the background to foreground thing is paint your miniature like you're dressing him up. so balat muna tapos yun inner layers of clothing bago yun outer garments.

I need more help with using inks. I tried zenithal and then S75 olive ink + Valejo glaze medium on a old metal plague monk and it looks AWFUL. I feel like I'm missing something. I dont want to have to keep relying on Contrast paints.

Perseonally, I think metalic paint works really good when they are thinned by Airbrush thinner. I don't know why.
