This is wonderful! I found 2 beautiful santa mugs handmade porcelain from the year 1949. The artist scratched the year on the bottom of one mug and painted her name but did not put glaze on the bottom. The other mug is fully glazed. I want to preserve the mug without the glazing on the bottom. Is there some glaze i can use that will harden without a kiln? That i can wash over & over and microwave?

Hi there, many thanks for your comment, I am glad you found my channel. 😊 Although I use Rustins ceramic glaze it is very expensive and hard to get hold of. There is an Acrylic glaze by Winsor and Newton which is easier to find. I don't think you need a kilm for it, but am not sure about using a microwave after, best to look at there instructions online.

Hi Allie, where do you get the glaze from, I have tried locating it but google comes up with amazon add for a 250ml tin for about £28 not sure if its the same stuff or correct pricing. I am loving your airbrushing videos and finding them helpful with the tips you give. :)

Hi Charles, unfortunately the Rustins is rather pricey. Winsor and Newton produce a ceramic glaze which is just over £10. You would have to look at the manufacturers instructions to see if it is food safe if you are using it on plates or cups . I Hope this helps.

Hi Allie, that's good to know, fortunately I practice on figurines I like the difficulty and challenge, in my nature I'm afraid.

@@charleskings-road2087 Hi Charles, I must admit I do enjoy restoring figurines. Even on the surface even the simplist item can be tricky.

Hello Alison, do you have any advice at all for removing paint from a porcelain doll? The doll that I have doesn't have a glaze or anything on her - she is an artist doll rather than a factory made doll and whoever painted her slapped some paint onto her and made a real mess out of the doll 😔 She is a stunning doll but the paint is really bad and she has bright red finger and toe nails too. She is painted with fired paint like ceramic/enamel paint. How can I strip this paint to repaint the doll or would this not be possible at all? I am just curious as I would love to give the doll more life, she has bright red finger and toe nails, blank hands and feet ie no blushing or anything and the sculpt is really pretty but she looks like she is wearing poorly done make up and I would love to repaint her but I have heard that I will need to strip the paint that has been fired before I can start over with new layers of paint which I plan to cure in a kiln if that makes sense. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there, unfortunately I don't restorer porcelain dolls, I presume she is bisque. You could, maybe, practice taking off some of the paint on one of the toenails as practice piece first, then repaint carefully. Do you have a local dolls shop where they could advise you? Please let me know how you get on. 😀

@@theceramicrepairstudio Hello again, thank you for your reply! To be honest, I don't know of many UK based doll stores that deal with porcelain dolls but I will certainly have a look for something like that as I may have some luck 😀 I have heard that apparently something called 'Hydroflouric acid' will etch the paint off of the porcelain. It sounds incredibly dangerous to work with though and in the UK I don't think we can get stuff like that without a licence lol I could just paint over the pieces with acrylic paint or something like that instead of using china paints that will need firing as I need to sort out a proper kiln but I also haven't found many UK based china paint suppliers. I know that pottery is still a popular hobby and that people will be buying china paints to paint their pieces etc in the UK but I haven't found many suppliers and I still need to learn about the various paints etc. I will do some more research, thank you very much for your reply 😁 If I have any success then I will definitely let you know about that!

@@CS-td1nn I did once have to repaint a very small bisque face and used proffesional acrylic mixed with a little water and ceramic glaze to lock it all it. It didn't replace after because se was more muted and not shiny. Perhaps with cotton bud you could start to take off the paint on part of a toe with nitromores, but only very small to see. Hope this helps.
