The summer holidays are over and it’s time to come back after a well-earned break! We resume with the second and final part of our “How To” video on the 1/35th scale Tamiya Char B1 bis French Main Battle Tank (Reference #282).
This part is all about weathering and how to achieve it. It is highly personal and subjective, of course, but our goal was to match the archive footage of the real tank in 1940.
Weathering is iterative and multi-layered as you will see. To speed things up, try alternating between enamels and acrylics and using a hairdryer. What you see is pretty much real time as this method allows you to press on and keep working without worrying that you will undo previous work.
Follow the complete painting and weathering process from A to B in this film. Watch the build and all of the paint/weathering/finishing stages. We used Mig Productions, Tamiya, AK, Vallejo, Lifecolor and Humbrol products to name a few. As you can see we are pretty disloyal and agnostic and use whichever paint brand or product is to hand or that we particularly like for a certain task.
No sealing occurred between effects unless shown. So you do not need to seal with varnish if you don't care to.
You can find more information on some of the techniques seen by clicking the i link for longer single videos.
Any questions, let us know in the comments. Bye for now!

Some like H159 at least 15 years old. If air doesn't get to them they have a very long shelf life.

This is nice. I can't see myself going this far into weathering a tank, but I haven't started a kit yet. Keep up the good work.👍

Great video, my compliments! You show that by using the more classic techniques, which might old fashioned according to some, you're still able to make a first class model! I really enjoyed this video from start to finish!

An exceptional piece of work SWM, I shall 'favourite' this vid for future reference. A thing I've noticed in all tank builds, on many chanels, is the underside detail. I'm not a tank modeller [except my apprentice piece in the 80's when dry-brushing was the big thing including rust effects and polishing weapons with pencil lead] or a real tank expert BUT...I imagine the underside would be deeply scoured and gouged after crashing through so much heavy masonary etc. Its a detailling effect I've never seen added. Just a thought...

So many different products available now that didn't exist years ago that one doesn't know what or how many of them you will need or how to use them, where to find them and are you getting the right things? Most brick/mortar shops have gone the way of the dinosaurs so you can't ask an online site either.

Hello. Have you thinned the dark wash or are you using it neat? Thanks.
@scalewarmachines
@scalewarmachines 5 жыл бұрын
Probably slightly thinned. Undiluted has its place (e.g. pin washes) but it's a bit too intense. Of course, it depends on the characteristics of the wash and manufacturer you are using.
