Having discovered your artwork recently you have motivated and inspired me to create abstract artwork. I have for many years focused on more detailed realistic artwork but now feel excited to move into a new dimension to my artwork. I absolutely love the translucent color tones that you apply. Simply beautiful and so pleasing to the eye whether the paintings are small or large format size. Your natural balanced and relaxed commentary is great and I do particularly like the pace of your demonstrations. Brilliant! Thank you so much Karen for sharing your creativity. Much appreciated.

Thanks for this interesting tutorial. I was looking for an idea to help me with a painting of the Jefferson River near my home, frozen over in Winter with the mountains in the background under our huge/enormous Big sky. I'll use your technique for the hills and mountains and add the gold, because of the actual gold up there in those mountains, which will be a nice realistic touch! Love it. Was thinking of the fiber paste for the bending river as well, however, on the other hand, I think I'm going to use the glaze for the river in multiple colors (ultramarine blue, sap green, light sage green as the water becomes closer to the surface and side walls of the landscape) as it is in real life and do it with a very light touch blended with zinc white for the icy waters. Your tutorial has stirred a million ideas for my future painting I otherwise would not have thought of. Thank you. Be well and safe and always remember..."I am all here now..."(De Kooning) :)

Karen, if you were going to use this technique using pinks/magenta's, what color would you suggest using for depth??? I can see some gold highlights....but I'm thinking either a ph. blue or diox purple. Are they too dark? What do you see, or do you have any color combination suggestions? Your choice of colors are always spot on and pleasing to the eye.
@AbstractARTpaintings

Hi- sorry for delay in response. I'm thinking the purple would be perfect. If you use blue with pink/magenta, you'll end up with some purple anyway. I'd love to see it finished with these colors!

On a color wheel wouldn’t colors in the orange range be the complimentary colors and bring a real pop to attract the eye by bringing a color surprise to your painting? I see you use Golden High Flow inks but you mentioned at the end of this video when we saw the larger work, that you had used gold alcohol inks.......Can you advise on which ink is best for which purpose. So many questions!! Many thanks.
@AbstractARTpaintings
@AbstractARTpaintings 4 жыл бұрын
Hi - I don't like to cover textured works (with glass). I like the texture to be very visible. I use alcohol inks (gold and other colors). They give a somewhat unique flow/finish vs. paint. Any brand would be fine! I used Golden Hi-Flow acrylics and alcohol inks (I think they are Liquitex brand). Any works!

I'm so glad I found you today!!! I've been terrified of glazes for ages now because all the videoes I've watched seem to assume we all know everything about them, and use so many different products it's overwhelming! While they certainly achieve beautiful paintings, they don't really explain the what and the how like you've just done...I'm not terrified any more so I'll just get some small cheap canvas boards and practice, practice, practice! One quick question though, I don't have any actual glazing mediums but I do have an unopened bottle of 'binder' because I saw a lovely lady using that for her glazes... is this OK??? Thank you for sharing your expertise in such a simple and detailed way, you're a great teacher! Subscribed today and I look forward to spending many more hours learning from you.

Great work! I just disagree with you on the color picking advice for new artists... Some people look for art to hang on their wall at home and might have a color sched. in furniture and such. They would be attracted to that color OR the complementary color... So could well be an all kinda blue painted panel...To match the couch and chairs or to hang on a yellow-ish wall

hmmm what am i missing ? why not just use a Molding paste [ Golden ] / or Modeling Gel [ Stevenson ] pretty much the same - anyway it seems simpler and achieves the same idea and actually allows more possibilities...not a criticism just curious - and btw why not use a dryer rather than wait ? A dryer depends on how much paint will dry it, usually in minutes or longer but often less longer than waiting hours or overnight
@AbstractARTpaintings
@AbstractARTpaintings 3 жыл бұрын
Hi- thanks for the comment! This is just a different technique which actually does create a different look than just a gel/paste. Once you do it you can see the obvious difference. Also, as an experienced glaze user, I've learned over the years that you need to let a glaze fully cure or you can run into issues trying to paint over it too soon. Using a dryer is great sometimes, but not when using lots of glaze layers (they lift if not fully dry down to the surface). Bummer for impatience, but it's worth the wait (for me and my art). :) Thanks again for watching!

@@AbstractARTpaintings yep ! i am just learning glazes with spray water and Mediums, and i have painted over several canvases due to paint lifting and appreciate the time you took to comment since it IS a bummer when i get a really great idea and colors and ends up lifting ! i am using less paint now other than when highlights are needed but really happy to hear your reason why it was lifting and although i am still using a heat gun i am allowing natural dry time more and what a difference - i may start a new painting while one is drying, so i am not bored waiting - Thank you for your time and input !
