You make it look easy, but maybe it is relative to the alternatives. I think if you dodge around him, as I tend to do, that triggers him to use the shield bash attack, which causes you to have to roll away, which then triggers him to start using red sword attacks. Perhaps standing in front of him and just parrying is the safest. The main problem with this guy is just how unforgiving he is due to the damage. At the time you encounter him, unless you have dumped a ton of points into vigor, he will one hit kill you. Even if you have put tons of points into vigor, 2-3 hits is the most you can take, and it is really hard to drink a flask. The hunter in Limgrave took me most of a Saturday afternoon to beat, and he's the only boss so far where I gave up and resorted to using a bow - which was laughably easy. But I know there are more of these guys and I would rather parry. I haven't got Carian Retaliation yet. I just have storm wall, which I find quite difficult to use. I do a lot better with the buckler, but the penalty of missing is much greater.

Yea I fought him a couple times today, he kept using that shield bash attack on me which completely broke my rhythm, it's a pain in the ass, but I do really wanna learn how to parry him properly :/

You have to drink a flash after you stun him then do a critical hit, that’s about the only time you can drink a flask during this fight

Since his attacks are massively delayed, dagger parry is a GREAT choice for this particular enemy. Its slow animation will help you out if you keep parrying early.

I've successfully defeated limgrave's, liurnia's and altus's plateau but the most painful one is the fkin overtuned one at the Isolated Merchant Shack in Caelid, man got like 5k or even 10k hp and 2 shots me at 60 vigor

yeh that Calid one is insane. I had more trouble with him than Godfrey at level 160. I used flame of the redmanes spam on him. Back out of range completely for his ranged attacks and then hit him with a couple of flames and a crit. Problem is you have to be aware of the dogs ganking you.

Hey, Christian. So the bell bearing hunter will only spawn at night when the merchant isn’t there. When I was fighting him here, after dying, I’d have to rest at the grace to turn time till night. But having done this, the merchant is still there and the hunter won’t spawn, so I’d quit out the game to reload the area, and then he’d be there. However, I’ve found out since that you can simply rest again rather than quitting out, which is quicker. Thanks for watching.

Your video on how to parry crucible knight is really helpful for me, I know when to hit parry button, I only had small shield back then and now medium shield with storm wall so the same parry frame. I notice that there's also stance breaking moves then crit. Use jump heavy attack (= 2x heavy attack poise damage) or charged heavy attack (=3x heavy attack poise damage), if you 2 handed weapon you get +10% bonus. I hope you can make new content teaching us about stance breaking. I saw a video, a guy fighting Crucible Knight, he parry + crit, when Knight stomp he jump heavy attack, guard counter then crit.

Great guide thanks. The one in dragonbarrow was really giving me a lot of trouble, Could have cheesed him, but following this guide i learned to fight him fairly, and was much more fun and satysfing.

one thing I might recommend to make things easier to read is slowing down the footage on attacks you can parry and then pause it at the point of parry I feel that conveys the information more clearly that just a still image. these guides are great and very well commentated I am looking forward to more. I'd recommend making a single video that covers enemies and bosses that can't be parried just to get it out of the way. I was shocked to find Mohg couldn't be parried in ether form.

Your breakdown helped me to defeat him in my second try after bunch of failed attempts. I didn't struggle with him at Warmaster's Shack but surprisingly really struggled at Church of Vows, I think he had more health here and prob even more when I reach him again as I heard he is in four locations. It was so close to get him every time before I'm down in his two swings. Your guide is clear and easily the best without cheese. Thanks!

This guy gave me alot of trouble because he is so aggressive and doesnt let you heal easily (because range). I learned from your very helpful videos, that some enemies take 2 parries to riposte, I assumed you just cant riposte this guy. Keep up the great work.

Difficulty of guy in altus is harder than limgrave, but weaker than Caelid. Caelid one rammed me good for a long time, everything in Dragonbarrow is substantially stronger than Caelid main.

Unlike the Banished Knight, the hunters don't have much variation aside from health/damage and how often they use certain moves. Additionally, he has no magic attacks to absorb, so using storm parry will give you an easier time.

They are not using Carian Retaliation to absorb magic, they are using it because it (along with Golden Parry) has the shortest startup and most active frames, making it a better parry than the buckler. You can also put it on a medium shield with high stability so you can do setup parries or guard counters. One more thing: unlike Storm Wall, Carian only costs FP when used to absorb spells. Its just a straight up upgrade to any parry tool with no downsides

@@OsirisGrimoire That's the thing, Storm Wall has short frames and, like Golden Parry, also has reach. Storm Wall on a medium shield is probably the best parry tool you can use for someone who needs a huge crutch with it.

@@Mathenaut dont know where you get this info from, but its all wrong. Storm wall has the same frame data as a small shield: 11 start up frames and 11 active frames. Despite the visual effect, the hitbox remains the same for melee attacks, and it will always cost FP, even if you dont parry anything. Carian Retaliation and Golden Parry have 8 start up frames and 14 active frames (buckler has the same startup, but only 11 active). Another added advantage of Carian is that it only costs FP when you parry a spell. Golden is the only parry with a disjointed hitbox and thats not always beneficial, since the hitbox might end up behind the target if they get too close. Carian is the best all around parry tool

I’ve beat all except the Altus plateau so far, that one I haven’t progress to that area yet, but so far hardest was the isolated merchant shack one in caelid, but once I beat him by dodging and hitting jump attacks, it made lots of other bosses in game easy since I got good and timing and dodging

This Fight reminded me of The Shadows of Yharnam fight from Bloodborne. Those guys will absolutely crush you with their ranged attacks. It's only when you play confidently and stay close to them that you excel.

I'm struggling on the Caelid/Dragonbarrow version of this guy atm. The others weren't too much of a problem. This one is considerably harder, but even worse there's some sort of problem with his riposte hitbox. Has anyone else noticed that it's really hard to actually do the riposte on the Caelid version? I do what I do for every other enemiy - parry, press into him, hit R1. And 75% of the time I just light attack him instead, losing the chance to riposte. I can usually get in 3 standard R1 attacks so it's not totally wasted, but it's less damage and worse it also puts me at great risk of being hit back. This fight is hard enough as it is; without the ability to consistently riposte him after a successful parry it's just BS. Anyone else noticed this?

I beat the Isolated Merchant one the other day. It took me about 30 tries, passing time at the grace included. I just parried him and stabbed him with a +13 Misericorde around 6 times. At 40 vigor, any two hits would kill and his drill/grab are certain death. The fact he has different followups to punish you for HIS openings is really stupid, lol

The limgrave one messed me up so bad because I fought him before I had even learned parrying. I was able to block the whole red sword combo but just couldn't get many hits in. Ended up cheesing him at the time by hopping torrent up on the shack roof and using poison arrows. Just got to the turtle pope church in liurnia though, I'm ready for a revenge match.

Last week i was trying to get the timing down using carian on a medium shield just in case i messed up. But it was up against the one in Caelid and partial parries take huge chunks off my health and stamina. After retrying way too many times with few successful parries and no reposte, i decided the risk was too high for little reward, so i just manipulated his AI to bait out moves that leave him open

I ran away from him and try to hit him smart from a distance behind some cover or using poison cloud on him and time.

He also has a shield charge that he throws at medium range - when you're too close to trigger the swords, perhaps. Like Gundyr's shoulder charges, it comes out fast, but he comes towards you and doesn't combo it so it's relatively fine for him to use this. You can also manipulate this enemy's AI to a certain degree by humping his right asscheek. He'll try to do the aoe shield slam over and over, making the fight way way easier if you're having trouble with parrying. Mix both parrying his few swings and dodges and he'll easily go down. Aside from the obvious help this video gave, it also (along with the comments!) taught me that the boss Bell Bearing Hunter in that poison castle area of the Altus Plateau is not, in fact, the only one of these guys, and I've just somehow managed to completely avoid ever encountering one until then in the 120+ hours I've put into this game 🤣 The Altus Plateau boss of these is the most recent boss I've done (I think), so that's sort of where I am in progress anyway (although I did need to summon someone to help me beat him!). I just think it's hilarious that I've somehow missed multiple, including one that's apparently at the Warmaster's Shack??? (Spoilers!) I've gone back to the Warmaster's Shack after reaching the Volcano Manor and Bernahl moves there. Is that when the bell bearing hunter is supposed to appear there? When Bernahl has left? Or have I maybe missed my opportunity to encounter him? Anyway, thanks for another great video! I didn't really grow up with video games, so despite loving them, I'm honestly not very good at them. So while I've been adoring Elden Ring, I absolutely rely on spirit summons and multiplayer to get me through parts that I just struggle to get on my own! This series has DEFINITELY helped me actually get better at the game myself, even in my main playthrough which isn't very parry-oriented. It just genuinely helps me see what the hell I'm actually going up against since I struggle to actually focus on and remember things like the specific moves enemies make, since my adhd loves to ignore that when I'm fighting, haha! Sorry for the rambly-novel, I just woke up and I have no filter lmao. So, *TL;DR* thanks for the awesome series, as it helps with more than just parrying!

Every Bell Bearing Hunter (the one in the castle is named) invades you only at night after resting. It doesnt matter if warmaster or merchant is there, go there, "pass time" till midnight, stand up, rest at grace again, stand up. If the merchant/warmaster is not there anymore, you are getting invaded by Bell Bearing Hunter. From these instructions it will also become clear, how you missed them all.
