Boot camp has changed alot, the business insider videos don't show the new changes they made since there constantly adapting and making different changes into recruit training. Its all a learning experience for us, but I learned alot, I graduated this month on Friday the 13th and I would say it's changed me for the better

I remember when I joined back in N-198 march 2020. Same boot camp routine for the first 5 weeks, then covid hit cape may. Things started changing with the bag lunches at the galley around late week 5, there were no more shark attacks... "odd". It was just the regular scenarios after that (find some real estate) the normal routine from the CC's. Then boot camp came to an end for myself at week 7 (For me I cannot argue) ... I cannot say that your boot camp will be the same... All can say is that is because coast guard boot camp may never be like the real thing until covid is over. I do encourage those that are going forth for SP. Great paths lye before you always. -MK3

Oh nice, I shadowed Bravo 199 before they left, everyone who's going in a few points of advice, keep your rack and area clean, if your shipmates can't try to help them, being a team is everything, and just remember. No matter how hard it is, everything is earned not given so do your best, listen, and follow the orders and you'll do great, see you in the fleet!

Do not, DO NOT fall for and sign on for a different rate for the bonus. You have to be released from rate to switch, so if you join with the OS bonus and have intentions after 4 years or going HS, 2 things can happen, one you will hate your life and want to get out of the coast guard, or two you get to 4 years as a OS and they don’t release you from your rating to go HS. Bonuses are a trap. Retention rates are low and there’s a reason why those rates have a bonus.

Hey love your videos! I'm actually in the process of joining the coast guard. Just like seaman Llanos, im also a 29 year old and going through the process as a United States Permanent Resident but not a citizen. Besides from joining during covid , whats delaying me is the fact that I am not a citizen, I have to wait for my background check to clear before I even get a date. The recruiters and CG investigators have been very helpful throughout the process.

Hi I have some questions about the pt. What are the most push ups done by someone at coast guard basic? What are the most sit ups? How can you get top of class in physical fitness? Can you work out more between 7 and lights out?

Never choose a rate based on its bonus. The CG is full of miserable cooks and OS's who made their decision based on bonus money. A bonus is exactly that, it's an extra incentive. 20 years is a long time to do something you do not want to do. Chances are you will have nothing to show for that bonus $ by the time you retire. I just retired from the CG less than 90 days ago, wish I could run it back!

Not a weird question! Basically, for all of these, just cover your mouth. If a CC catches you yawning and not covering your mouth, it is disrespectful and you will probably get IT’d for it. If a CC catches you coughing or sneezing without covering, you will also get yelled at and told to wash your hands and then IT’d.

No PT test is taken in those two weeks of ROM. It is taken the Friday after you get out of ROM (about two and a half weeks from arrival). Be over prepared when you arrive because those two weeks could hurt your PT scores. During ROM, you are able to workout (pushups, sit ups, squats, planks) but you can’t really do much cardio. Occasionally we were taken out to the track, but it was difficult to keep 90 recruits six feet apart.

You have the ability to workout in ROM. We were provided with yoga mats and could use them whenever we had free time during ROM. We were encouraged to use them so that we could successfully pass the fitness test. We were also taken out for runs on the track a few times. Hope this helped!
