Do you have any tips for me finding work as a entry level medical coder? I currently work at a hospital but most places require coding experience.

Hi Shivam, wow congratulations on passing the exam! 83% is a very good score! Thank you for offering to buy me dinner but you don't have to. Your good news is enough for me. Since you are already working at a hospital, you should stop by the coding department and give them your resume. Tell them you are a current employee there because most hospitals prefer to offer jobs to people in house. The entry level medical coding job usually is a GI or ER coder position. Try and focus on these two coding skills and sometimes they will be willing to train you if you have a letter of recommendation from your supervisor. Hi Doc. It is me Leslyn. I did the first part of my CPC exam today, 74 questions, and oh boy it was quite challenging. I did do your tips and strategies but I was running out of time so I had to resort to doing an educated guess for some. I will tackle the 76 questions tomorrow. Time management could be a problem. It is not that you do not know the answer but It will take some time to figure out some of the answers. I am hoping for the best.

The more practice the faster you will be. Next time, when you see similar cases or questions it will take less time compared to the first time you tackle it so you are doing just fine. Happy Learning.

Hi Marisa. Let's say a physician reviews and interprets an X-ray image of his patient hand injury. The X-ray is performed by a hospital's technician using hospital's equipment so the physician doesn't own the machine. All he can bill is his professional service by reviewing and interpreting the X-ray and documenting his finding whether or not it is a fracture or just a sprain. If you code for him then you have to use CPT 73130-26 (X-ray of the hand) with mod.26 attached (professional service only) and the hospital will bill the same code 73130-TC for technical component in other words, the usage of their equipment and their staff (i.e. the X-ray technician). I hope it helps.

I have a question on case #9 where the answer was 72114-TC. I was wondering why the answer was A since it stated it was a minimum of 6 views and the patient had 7 views. Please advise. 77214 requires a minimum of 6 views and the patient had 7 views so there is one view more that 7214 requires. If you use 77210 which requires only a minimum of 4 views while the patient had 7 views then you are undercoding. I hope it helps.

Hi Karmah. Both exams CPC and CCA are nationally recognized and it is just simply a mater of your preference between AHIMA and AAPC. My advice for you is to learn as much as you can because your knowledge is more important than your credential, please keep that in mind. AHIMA is a well know organization and I am from AHIMA. Hi Rosalie. Since you are a nurse so you would be a great inpatient coder or an excellent CDI (Clinical Documentation Specialist). You should take the CCS exam from AHIMA instead of CPC exam from AAPC. You need to find a CCS prep book on Amazon and start learning how to code inpatient case studies first, get to know the DRG concept and when you are done with this book, then you should watch my videos for CPT coding preparation. I hope it helps.

Hello anh Hoang! I’m taking Medical Billing & Coding class and i’m about to be done. What is your advise in pass the CBCS exam? Is this exam similar to the CPC test or is it easier or harder? Thank you anh!

Hi Thao. Based on what I read on google, this CBCS exam is for billing and not for coding. Although you also need to know the ICD-10-CM and CPT code structures and formats for billing process but not in depth. That said, what you learn from my CPC exam prep videos is more than enough for the coding portion on the CBCS. My advise for you is that after you pass this exam, go for the CPC or CCS-P exam and become the coder rather than a biller. You don't make much money as a biller but you do as a coder depending on how good you are. Good luck with your exam Tracy. All the best.
