I’m looking into Preppy vs the course through AAPC …. I’m confused about books because it says the Preppy course is all ebooks ? Is this correct ? I need hard books…. Please advise Thanks so much ! Your videos are so helpful

Preppy offers eBooks, which is where the industry is moving towards. I actually just did an interview with the VP of Products and Services at the AAPC and she spoke about how they're piloting the eBooks for exams and it seems we're moving in that direction -- just not there quite yet. Preppy does offer you the option to purchase the paper books for examination purposes since we're still transitioning over the adoption of digital tools in the industry. Hello Victoria, I'm currently taking the preppy course, and I'm looking into getting scheduled to take the cpc exam through aapc. I'm a little confused though, first, what books do I need to study for the exam? And second, I have to become an aapc member first to in order purchase and schedule for the exam? "Handwritten notes are acceptable in the coding books only if they pertain to daily coding activities. Questions from the Study Guides, Practice Exams, or the Exam itself are prohibited. Tabs may be inserted, taped, pasted, glued, or stapled in the manuals so long as the obvious intent of the tab is to earmark a page with words or numbers, not supplement information in the book. Altering, whiting out, painting, or printing over any pages within the code books (e.g., marketing pages, table of contents, reference pages, etc.) to supplement information is prohibited. No materials (other than tab dividers) may be inserted, taped, pasted, glued, or stapled in the manuals." Ref: www.aapc.com/training/cpc-exam-faqs.aspx

My HCPCS Level II looks different than what I see on yours. This is a 2023, are you using 2024? Because the Introduction on my book looks different than yours. I am lost. :(

There are different editions of HCPCS. AAPC, AHIMA, AMA, PMIC, Optum, etc. Are you using a different edition?

The exams get a refresh every January 1st to reflect the current calendar year's code sets. So, even though ICD-10-CM codes might update on October 1st, those changes won't show up in the exam until the new year rolls around. 🗓️ Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance: www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx " What year's books should I use? All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets."
