You are so awesome for making these videos. My daughters dad has decided he didn't want to be in her life for the passed 12 years of her life. And she has no father figure. I myself don't know how to do or teach her a lot of this stuff. So thank you SO MUCH for taking your time to help so many kids! Much respect 🙏

this video inspired me to fix the hole thats been in our hallway wall for roughly a year and a half, primarily it wasn't fixed because of money and nobody really knowing how. I finally saw this channel and what you do for people and I decided now is the time to go and fix it. 3-4 hours later and a lot of second-guessing later and I'm at the spackle stage. *currently* waiting for the spackle to dry. sanding and paint come next, wish me luck!

Just to add a tip - when using the plywood as a backer for the big hole, drill a screw partway in through the middle of it. It will give you an easy way to hold on to the plywood if you don't want to jam your hands back behind it (or if the hole isn't big enough to do so). Once you get the screws in to hold the plywood in place, just remove the handle screw. Great video!

*Cut the plug first* Make it big enough to cover the hole. Then trace the plug onto the wall, around the hole, and cut on those lines. The plug will fit perfectly, at any shape, and you don't need to measure anything.

However, I tear up when I think how great it would be to have him around and for him to show me how to do anything. Even if I already knew, I would just listen to him and smile. You are doing a great thing sir. Don't ever let anyone convince you otherwise.

Sheetrock mud... For bigger holes, I would use a California patch. When you cut your patch piece, cut the piece larger than you need by like an inch each side. Then flip the patch piece over, and score the patch to size. Snap the patch from the back, and peel the gypsum off the paper front. You now have a patch, with a flap all the way around the hole to mud into place. Home Renovision DIY has a good video on it.

When putting in the wood you can put a screw in the center, put it in thru the hole, and hold it in place with a pair of pliers while you put the screws thru the wall. If you cut ypu patch a little large and then remove the excess paper and plaster from the back you can use the front paper as your tape.

My husband died when our kids were 9 and 13. Thanks for doing this. Here’s a tip for patching-when you cut the drywall square that you will insert into the hole, leave some paper around the edges from the paper/front side, make the part to insert exact to the hole on the back side, then you don’t need the Fiba tape.

One thought when cutting piece of drywall to fit in- you can lay a sheet of paper tightly over existing hole/square, do a pencil rubbing over the drywall edges, then lay the paper over the new piece and trace it to make your cut lines. Some people are not so great at eyeballing a piece's dimensions, and that might could help.

Hey, "Dad"...I just recently learned about your channel and your story. I was very fortunate to grow up with a father who was very handy when it came to home projects and also working on the car and I learned so much from him. But I am still also learning a great deal from you! For anybody on here who might not be sure, "Dad" has the goods! He is providing lots of free information that we can all use to repair and replace things ourselves, thereby saving lots of money and time. At the same time, KNOW your limitations and always consider "What is the worst that could happen?" if you make a mistake with something. If you aren't sure or the risk is higher than you are comfortable with...know when to call a friend and/or a professional.

I learned a lot watching this video. I had seen the kits, but I had no idea how to do it. Luckily I haven't needed it over the years, but we have a rental property now, so I'm sure this will come in very handy. Thanks so much!

just a tip, cut the peice you are going to fit first, trace around it, and then cut your hole out. that way you dont need to worry about trimming it.

I've just realised how much pressure society puts on men. They literally have to be the provider, teacher, protector for their families. When you can't be any of those you're labelled as useless. As a woman, I have it pretty easy. Please appreciate your dads, brothers, uncles If you have one..
