Yes, people should collect what they love! Also, need to know what's popular to hold long term. Eventhough you may not be a fan of the Umbreon Alt Art, it's still a great add to your collection. Maybe keep it raw and not grade it but keep it! IMO

I started collecting late 2020 and so far my alternate art cards, trainer gallery, full art trainer and all eeveeloutions are coming along so well and it’s what you really do enjoy. I got to say the alternate arts are the best IMO cause the style and what they include in the backgrounds and everything is just a cut above the rest!

It's nothing rare or expensive, but i love the shiny Rowlet card from Shining Fates. Rowlet is my favorite starter and i hunted for a shiny Rowlet in Moon version when the game came out. Pulled shiny Rowlet in my first ETB and was over the moon! I plan on grading it and having it as a staple of my collection for years!

i also saw when astral radiance cards were leaked, the general sentiment was that the machamp v alt art was a very popular favourite card - i’m surprised to see that it’s currently being out priced by dialga v (also beautiful & i personally prefer palkia & dialga) & expect the machamp v to outprice it eventually :)

people are 100% sleeping on the flareon, jolteon, and Vaporeon premium box promos they look so stunning and they're effectively cheap rn with them being graded I picked up the flareon v and VMAX 9's for only $80 I absolutely love those cards I hope they reprint the boxes so I can buy and keep them sealed but if not then they're gonna go up like crazy at some point

i bought the first two cards charizard and blastoise as well as venusaur last year all psa 9. they dropped in price since but they are still great looking cards. Was going to buy singles and grade but i think those cards were very hard to get NM-M raws. Promos in general i think are hard to get decent conditions.

Meaning limited. 2) Limited print A Collab card that has massive print run doesn't appreciate well. Hey man great video I would love to hear your opinion on cards through the generations of pokemon. You mentioned gen 6 was your least favorite. As for sleeper modern pokemon YES it's very true I remember the first time I saw charizard EX 2016 promo. It was like seeing a rare artwork. That's how I build my collection on what steals my attention.

I remember picking up all the Lillie FA cards before that jump in price happened. SM Base Lillie FA, Ultra Prism Lillie FA, Cosmic Eclipse Lillie FA, that one Clefairy promo with Lillie in it, promos from the Japanese Lillie box thing, and the big one for me.. a Dreams Come True Lillie. Overall, I mostly collected cards with art of Pokémon and character I like. Lillie just so happened to be one character that was popular enough to have her cards jump in price a bit.

Galarian Moltres V alt art is (imo) the best alt are of the sword and shield era. It’s an artistic masterpiece. The symmetry, composition, color, texture, everything!!! It’s a home run

Hi Jake! I've been wondering about modern cards. How do you choose when to stop trying to pull a certain card from booster packs and when to outright buy the single of it?

Its sort of a preference but it's almost always going to be cheaper to straight out buy the cards you want. I enjoy ripping packs as well but theirs usually a balance. I'll typically open up an ETB or 2, or a booster of a set I really like, than buy the rest of what I actually want from it

I appreciate your opinions and the way you deliver them. I agree with you so much. I collect the cards I like because they are the cards I like, I don't take market value into consideration much. Sometimes the cards I like are worth only a couple dollars on the market. I really like the Trainer Gallery Eevee from Brilliant stars and its worth less than 2$ on the open market, I bought a few and I plan on having the best one graded at some point in the next few years.

like the latias latios tag team gx, i feel like the arceus v alt art & black star promo are super underappreciated at the moment. the japan post stamp promos are also 2 of my favourite arts to date, they’re so unique (for pokemon cards) although they’re already quite pricey. i agree with you in that i don’t mind the umbreon vmax art but i don’t think it’s worth the price it’s currently commanding!

For my "best cards" I just buy what I like honestly. I love full art waifu trainer cards because some shows really cool art or I just like the character, alternate arts just gives the artwork a personality at times like blastoise & piplup gx has a nice and friendly vibe or gardevoir & sylveon gx has a heartwarming and cute vibe, and I just wanna collect eeveelutions I just finished obtaining all the eevee alts V working on vmax now but still gotta work on the eevee v black star promo, holographic promo, and vmaxs. Just collect whatever you like and don't have someone point the way for you because that doesn't feel like fun

As a big lugia fan boy myself there are tons of awesome lugia cards. Some that spring to mind are Lugia Aquapolis, Neo genesis, Pokemon topps first appearance, exclusive play promo, rainbow rare gx from lost thunder, shining lugia from shining legends. There's too many to name.

4:25 I actually completely disagree with this. Yes, vintage English set cards have been optimized, but there's still a TON of sleeper cards if you take the time to look. Japanese vintage, exclusive sets, promos, low tier trophys, even psa ~8 shadowless English cards have a great value rn that I would consider overlooked.
