I use the picking out the leaf trick. It works for me every time. I also pay attention to the color and smell as well.

I've found that while what you've mentioned is correct .. the main thing to look for is a smaller vegative growth from the top of the pineapple .. they seem much better all around when small .. the larger that plant growth is on top seems to affect flavor and sweetness regardless of the other things mentioned

Hi, I live in a country where pineapplea are not grown locally - they are imported. Most of those in the maeket are more green than yellow. You menrtioned that pineapples will not ripen when they are plucked offf the plant. So how do we go round this? Thank you.

So, whats a good indicator it is over ripe? I have picked several that are green on the outside and over ripe on the inside
@JohnDoe-lt9sg3 жыл бұрын
there are different varieties of pineapple and some are green when ripe supposedly. Golden yellow variety is a common supermarket variety that does indeed change to golden yellow when ripe. Also i'm pretty sure this guy is wrong about pineapples not ripening after picking
@busterMcShamus3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-lt9sg yeah that sounded weird to me I mean maybe the ripening process is different but I've definitely seen changes in them internally depending on their color and whatnot

I followed your advice. Got home and next day found the fruit foaming and leaking juice all over the counter. Was that pineapple safe to eat?

I will disagree on the color. It seems shallow and wrong to use this criterion. There are various varieties of pineapple. There are some specific varieties that do not acquire the golden yellow at maturity and/or ripening. You would rule them out despite them being among the best varieties in terms of sweetness and being juicier. For colour, that criterion applies to only the varieties that turn golden yellow at ripening
