Really? I think the 6.0 is one of the most popular swaps; it’s why they cost so much more than a 5.3 in the junkyard. Power wise you can really make similar numbers between a 5.3 and a 6.0, yet people still wanna jump all over the 6L more than anything else. I always go for the 5.3 and if I’m spending heavy on a build I skip the 6L all together and grab up a 6.2-poor mans LS3 for a similar price as the 6.0. In my area you pay 700-800 for a 6.0 longblock, but you can get a 6.2 Rec port longblock around here for 1000ish maybe 1200 if it’s a low mile pull out.
@kennethpowers8995
@kennethpowers8995 2 жыл бұрын
That is of course IF the local yard has any vehicles with either a 6.0 or a 6.2 in it, because usually they do not. They do indeed come in, but when they do the wrecking yard workers call their buddies and whatnot and they get first dibs on all the good motors, low mile 80E transmissions, etc all for the cheap. And it’s easier for them to pull the stuff even because they work there-they have all the time and tools to do it right versus guys like me that have to go there with their tool bag and a 90 year old rusty engine crane the scrap yard lets you use to yank your motor out while laying in the rocks/sand and you better be done by 4:55 because they’re locking that gate in 5 minutes regardless!

I like this guy. I'm a genuine asshole most of the time, I'm kinda grouchy or short fused when it comes to allot of people and their bullshit but I like watching him do these dyno tests and things and not dragging through the videos. Allot of good knowledge and no nonsense. The other thing I like is you don't leave things out, it literally pertains to someone that can only afford junk yard parts or swapping what's laying or an Amazon or eBay turbo kit for a few hundred or someone who can throw on two 98 millimeter turbos and a with nitrous and a bullet proof engine to take it all. Great job and a very likeable person.

Dude! I am so happy you did this comparison. I always wanted to know how the sloppy stage 2 held up against other big name cam shafts. If the trick flow specialty track max cam held up to their trifecta claim of more torque, more horsepower and no loss of power down low. And if the track max cam and the sloppy stage 2, were one and the same. I got all my question answered in one video! Kudos to you.

Awesome info again! You don’t mention intake CL or cam advance, but most are installed at +4. So if the SS2 cam intake CL is 108 (LSA 112 less 4), that makes Intake Closing at 42 ABDC, at 0.050 tappet lift. Comparing to the Comp cam, installed at 109 it has IC at 44.5. Both cams have some overlap which fills in the mid range on the torque curve much better than the massive negative overlap, or wide LSA, of the LS3 cam. This is the info you need to pick a cam for street or strip. This channel continues to amaze!

I think videos like this for reference are great! I think they will help a lot of people. I spent a lot of time trying to find other people's test when i was trying to decide on a cam for my 489bbc. There is lots of "600hp builds" out there but, It was hard to find the mild street buils, especially with the peanut port heads. There's lots of conflicting info about them too. It would be nice to know for sure if a nice street motor can be built with peanut port heads. But, I just found the other day, a 454 test with a gen 6 block and peanut port heads you did, so that was helpful. The only question left is what does an intake and cam upgrade do for a peanut port head engine. The few dyno test i did see with the old 454s show about a 100hp difference between the factory claimed (net)hp and what you and others have shown with a engine on the dyno. Is the exhaust manifold, factory cast intake manifold, and accessories worth that much? A test showing how big a cam the peanut port heads can handle would be nice too😉. Thanks a lot, Keep the videos coming.

So my old man and I are looking at dropping an LS setup into his 57 Chevy 210 because the 283 was too badly damaged to be machined. So he wanted to put down 400+ at the wheels and he still has the original bench seats so he didn’t want anything crazy. This is a GREAT intro video that helps me understand some of the pitfalls to avoid when selecting the LS platform to go with. We certainly appreciate it. Going to go look now to see if you have a video on a destroked LS setup (LS3 block with 4.8 crank)… would go really well in my 73 Camaro RS with a TR6060 or TKX

If you're going to do another cam test, let's do an all summit truck cam test! Cheap and that's what daily drivers are going to be using, something you don't have to change the converter with and won't loose torque.

Making me want to change cams again... I never thought that I would see the SS2 making more TQ than a stock LQ4 cam at lower than 4000 RPM. I went from the stock LQ4 cam in my truck, to a 202/216 .525 112 LSA. Then to a 214/220 .598/.605 111 LSA. It works well, but seeing tests like this always have me second guessing. And my inner voice is constantly telling "go big or go home."

Richard could you pull up specifically an overlay of the ss2 and btr stage 2 truck cam vs stock On the 6.0s? I've watched all the videos but an actual visual of those two dyno graphs would be great. first time building/swapping an lq4 into my 85 gmc 4x4 and I've pretty much narrowed it down to one of the two grinds.

the stage 2 truck cam makes less than the SS2 from 4000 rpm on up. The Truck cam makes more lower speed down near 2500 rpm.

Richard I am currently going clean sheet crazy on my best mates vx ss Commodore . His LS1 was factory equipped with utterly useless oil control grooves in the 3rd ring groove as well as the rubbish design work within the baffles of the rocker covers .my mate has permitted me to reverse the piston orientation , because of the generous gudgeon pin offset , my favorites Henry is the same M code that you also seem to be rather passionate about , all the henries that I've built have all had their pistons reversed . It would appear that when I had the old rubbish design slugs sealed for the new ones , I did ask Ross from Browne engineering could he check if the Ls has any gudgeon offset , and considering he is in his 70's , he looked like I did when I was 19 , and discovered that piston reversal will yield strong increases in cylinder pressures. The old guy told me excitedly that there is heaps of offset on LS pistons. My cam grinder said we will be using all of the cam profile that I designed in the early 1990's , Ivan Tighe cam catalogue includes my Cleveland solid #764 , intake dur 261°@ 50"' exh dur 256° @50"' or intake 292 ° @ 5"' , exh 298 ° @ 5"', intake op 44° btdc close @ 68° and , exh op 83° bbdc close @35° atdc , lift @ rocker tip is intake lift @ 614"'. , Exh peak valve lift @ rocker tip 622"' . I absolutely worship my cam could you please try my big bam cam in a 351 Cleveland with the Aussie quench chamber small valve heads . Full size 4 Venturi valves do not clear the valves during overlap phase . the closing exhaust valve gets caught by the rapidly opening intake valve , which then drags the exhaust valve open again.
