Thanks so much for the gentle instruction. I am part Hawaiian (Palau family on my mother's side) and have been turning my ukulele playing in this direction, lately. Glad to see such an accessible song presented in an easy-to-follow lesson! Aloha from Los Angeles!

Aloha Harry! I love this song and have not practiced much on picking. I love your tutorial and will start practicing. I just started playing baritone a few months ago... so since I am a beginner picker, my question is, do I need to change the picking to go with the baritone chords? Or I can practice with my soprano ukulele. Mahalo for your tutorials!

Harry's Guitar Aloha Harry. I am in Walnut Creek, CA. Just east of San Francisco. Retirement community called Rossmoor....9000 residents with almost 6000 units. There are over 200 clubs. Ukulele club has over 100 members and keeps growing. All of us appreciate your videos. They are simple, easy to follow and the result is a beautiful song. Please do Koke e in key of C. Thank you. Aloha.

hi! I play by ear also I read music. For some reason or other, Hawaii Aloha sounds some what similar to Pu'u ana hulu. Oh I play Uke and Guitar and Mandolin. Maybe I am getting older. but they do sound similar.

Harry, I pretty much have your version of Kawika down-thanks for your kokua. I'm working on Hawaii Aloha. It seems doable enough, but both songs have a transition that I struggle with- F to B minor and quickly back to F . I seldom nail it. Got any tips other than practice practice practice?
@Harrysguitar8 жыл бұрын
Aloha Peter! No Worries! The struggle to move from F to B flat chords are very common! Angle the neck of ukulele higher and keeping the thumb behind the neck will give you better leverage! I usually make a exercise of my trouble spot and make a game out of it! Play and practice with your eyes closed! Have FUN,FUN, FUN!!! :)

Hey Harry, Thanks for the tutorial. I'm not Hawaiian, I'm Samoan. I am learning how to play this song because it has the exact same rhythm and melody as a Samoan song.I'm kind of confused on when to strum while I'm picking. But anyways, good tutorial. 👏👏👏

You mentioned this song was sung after an event... Is an "outsider" allowed to join in and sing this song after the event, or is that frowned upon? 🤔
@Bryan-qb9zw5 жыл бұрын
Francie Hubert as someone who lived in Hawaii for 18 years, it doesn’t matter. Anyone can join in and sing along. I remember in grade school when we had May Day, we would always end with Hawaii Aloha! And this was an outside event, so anyone could watch, and when Hawaii Aloha came on, we would see to tourist joining in. Some would know and some would just go along. So yes you’re allowed to join in.
