If he gets three retainers they've got to be Alfred (your butler), Lucius Fox (financial manager/researcher), and Dick Grayson (a young ward with great potential, but too young and inexperienced to be an adventurer).

Let’s fix that last one there. He said you have no con, so to make up for it, you need a doctor with a medical degree. Swap future boy blunder out with Dr. Leslie Thompkins, so you don’t die on the off chance your healer takes a siesta when you do get your butt handed to you.

@@blakecandin1140 But a doctor will only be beneficial if you can survive the battles and tribulations of being an adventurer and get back to him/her. You'd be better off with having a decent healer in your party, plus Alfred already doubles as a homebase medic.

@@duddude321 Alfred doesn't have a medical degree and has been known to sew and hook him up to life sustaining equipment. I don't ever remember him doing extensive surgery on Bruce. @duddude3214 жыл бұрын
@@blakecandin1140 but can your doctor treat having your arm transmuted into flesh-eating spiders or any of the other wacky bullshit you're likely to encounter? If your healer can't pull their weight then you need a new healer. The whole party would likely agree. If it's something severe enough that you need to go back to camp to have treated instead of using an item then it's likely something you won't make it back to have treated. A redundant campfaring nonmagical healer is of minimal use. Better to have a protege that can help keep your camp safe and be useful in the field.

An interesting take, although not exactly how I would go for this. No hate, just a difference of opinion. Here's how I would build Batman: 3 levels of Ranger, Gloom Stalker archetype. This gives Batman literal invisibility to creatures who would normally see him in the dark, plus he can add Wisdom to initiative and gets an extra attack on the first round of combat, with boosted damage. 6 levels of Monk, specifically Way of Shadows for the minor magic of the Shadow Monk to replicate certain abilities, and the Shadow Step ability, which is better than a Cunning Action dash when there's darkness nearby. 11 levels of Rogue, and my choice is Arcane Trickster. this is where a lot of the utility belt gadgets come in for my money, and better represents the comics version of Batman, especially the ability to circumvent killing where possible by way of trickery
@fifaking13225 жыл бұрын

When I made my own Batman build, I used a rogue with investigator background and ended up getting some his iconic weapons down the line. Specifically: -cloak of the bat (which is quite op when it comes to scouting) -“bat shark repellent” (which is just a water skin full of copper acetate, which I managed to persuade my dm would work on sharks since copper acetate is a core component of actual shark repellent) -shock gauntlets (an aesthetic choice with a weapon that dealt lightning damage) -homebrew batarang (it was a gift from a dm and was just before the dnd club I was in banned homebrew, but they allowed me to keep it since it wasn’t too op. It was basically a throwing knife that came back on the same turn, unless I expended a charge which deals electrical damage and forced the opponent to drop their weapon on a failed strength save) He also had saving throws in dex and int, and proficiency in acrobatics, athletics, insight, intimidation, investigation, medicine, perception, persuasion, and stealth. He also managed to get a rare belt of giant strength (which increased his strength from 11 to 21, which made him surprisingly hard hitting in hand to hand. He also got a wand of polymorph so that he can turn into a T. rex (see dark multiverse story where he turned into a Batman T. rex), which I believe is his most offensively viable option). Other than that, he was mostly best at leaving no stone unturned, ensuring the party found EVERYTHING of value, and was so stealthy that he might as well have been invisible. Congrats if you took the time to read this. I honestly prefer what I ended up with for Batman than the build in this video, but I got additional items as I played and I think the dm kind of wanted him to be a bit more Batman. I even got a pet rat to call Robin.

You may want to look at the Gloomstalker subclass for the Ranger. Going invisible in darkness is the most batman thing ever, and add the Zypher strike spell to that.

Here’s my take. All important stats will be capped early to make way for feats: Intelligence will be no. 1, Bruce studied what he could in the most prestigious universities. Dexterity next, his answer to most attacks are dodges or counters. Wisdom afterwards, even without Detective Vision, he manages to solve most crimes. Charisma next, Bruce Wayne is charming and Batman makes you shit yourself in fear. Constitution is a little low, like I said, he dodges more than he tanks. Strength will be the dump stat, an Athletics expertise will sort you for any Strength checks and later on, saving throws won’t be an issue. Variant Human is a little overdone, but I like the flavour of a Wood Elf Bruce Wayne. All elves get +2 Dexterity, 60ft of Darkvision, useful for any predator encounters, Trance, so you’ll be able to absorb all the knowledge and skills you want to witn only a few hours of ‘sleep’, Fey Ancestry to avoid getting charmed and the Perception skill for free. Wood Elves get +1 Wisdom, 35ft of movement and Mask of the Wild, adding a few more stealth options in the wild. For roleplaying purposes, pick the Noble background for History and Persuasion. Starting with Rogue lvl 1 for 4 skills from the Rogue list, Acrobatics, Athletics, Stealth and Investigation, with expertise in the latter 2 skills and Sneak Attack, adding an extra d6 of damage on attacks with advantage with a finesse or ranged weapon. It won’t be too important but the next lvl will, at 2nd lvl Rogue for Cunning Action to Dash, Disengage, Hide or Aim as a bonus action. We’ll stop by the 1st lvl of Class Feature Variants Ranger for an extra skill, take Survival to emphasis Bruce’s ready for anything mindset, the Deft Explorer feature known as Roving, adding 5ft to base speed and giving you a climbing/swimming speed = base speed, and Favoured Foe to cast Hunter’s Mark without spell slots or concentration a no. of times = Wis mod. Back to Rogue for a Roguish Archetype, Bruce isn’t a Thief, but they aren’t all about stealing. Thieves get Fast Hands to use any object or do a Sleight of Hand check with advantage as a Cunning Action. Drop your caltrops and ball bearings to control enemy positions. Second Story Work is essentially obsolete with a climbing speed but adding Dex instead of Str to a runninglong jump is good stuff. At the 4th lvl, we’ll grab the Skilled feat for 3 skills, Intimidation, Sleight of Hand and Insight will round us out for now. For our last lvl of Rogue, Uncanny Dodge will halve the damage of any enemy attack in sight. Helpful since you’re essentially a wet paper towel in regards to durability. 1st lvl Monks get Unarmoured Defence. Think of this as Kevlar that gets AC of 10 + Dex + Wis. Martial Arts is a d4 damage die taking your Dex mod. This is applied to your unarmed strikes and monk weapons and scales up as you level in Monk. 2nd lvl gets Ki, mystical energy that Kirigi taught you about for a Flurry of Blows, Step of the Wind or Patient Defence. Unarmoured Movement gets you an extra 10ft movement and scales as you lvl up in Monk. 3rd lvl gets Deflect Missiles to catch projectiles, reduce the damage by 10 + Dex + Monk lvl and throw it back whe reduced to 0 at the cost of 1 Ki. This is a good time to mention the Way of the Cobalt Soul. Mystical Euridition will give you a free Intelligence skill or language of choice. Go for the skill and pick whatever you’d like from the 3 remaining ones. You get to choose again at the 11th lvl. Extract Aspect will allow you to know everything about your opponents Resistances and Immunities, so you can whip put one of your corporations doohickies to deal with them accordingly. 4th lvl gets another feat, Brawny will sort you for Strength checks, giving Athletics expertise, and Slow Fall, reducing fall damage = Monk lvl x 5. Think of it as your glide cape. 5th lvl gets Extra Attack, so it’s 2 attacks in an Attack action. Stunning Strike is your cape stun, forcing a Con save at 1 ki and on fail, they are Stunned, so you can wail on them repeatedly. 6th lvl allows you to fight anything and everything with Ki-Empowered Strikes, so you don’t have to worry about resistances and immunities. Extort Truth is an interrogation technique forcing a Cha save and on fail, your target can’t deliberately lie to you. Saves your teammate from using her Lasso of Truth. Preternatural Counter allows you a free shot at an enemy as a reaction when they miss their attack against you. 7th lvl is a buff to your Dex saves called Evasion, so you take no damage on success and half damage on failure. Darkseid is looking at you with tearful sorrow. Stillness of Mind will buff your Fey Ancestry by allowing a full Action to get rid of a charm or frighten effect. At 8th lvl, we’ll grab the Alert feat, adding 5 to your initiative mod and you can’t be surprised whilst conscious, I’ll just say it’s that stereotypical backfist out of sight. 9th lvl improves your Unarmoured Movement by allowing you to run up walls and on water. Call it a grappling hook. 10th lvl gets Purity of Body, so you don’t get poisoned or diseased. 11th lvl is your last Cobalt Soul feature, Mind of Mercury, adding a no. of reactions = Int mod with 1 ki. You can also spend 1 ki to gain advantage on any Int check you make. 12th lvl is your final feat, Keen Mind adds 1 to your Int, you know which way is north and can recall any info you heard in the last month. 13th Tongue of the Sun & Moon allows you to know all languages, except Druidic. The capstone is the 14th lvl of Monk for Diamond Soul so you’re proficient in ALL saving throws. No grappling, elemental effects, HP decreases, feeble minding, confusion or banishment for you.

Think I'd go way of the shadow monk, and I'd probably take sharp shooter as a feat around the time I got 2nd attack. Monks can throw darts, darts can be shaped like bats. Toss a couple at -5 attack for +10 damage +dex mod. I'm too chicken to dump Con, so my batman won't even lift bro.

I have only 1 warning for this build based on RAW for 5e, and that is to remember that Unarmed strikes and monk weapons don't proc sneak attack even though you can use Dex for the attacks. to proc sneak attack your weapon still ha to be ranged or have the Finesse property. Luckily this isn't an issue once you have the whip proficiency from Kensai, but it's still something to be weary of before then.

Batman, in my mind, is the character the "Always DM" makes when they can play as a PC. The player basically knows ahead of time what the enemies can do because of metagame knowledge, and knows how to thwart them, even if he cannot immediately win. And being the long term DM can most likely get away with a character benefit (Maybe being overly wealthy) if they agree to not break open the game with it, kind of like how Batman is incredibly wealthy, yet as shown in the video can accomplish much of what he needs to through game mechanics with small aesthetic differences, his wealth manifesting as something of a stop gap to avoid total party kills.

For my Monk Kensei weapon I chose Dart and made them my Batarangs. But the thing that tied it all together was the “Cloak of the Bat” magic item- which allows me to fly in shadows. It’s a very playable build so far. Being a Noble with Alfred and Robin is awesome.

Batman is a survivor and I can really see him as a Gloomstalker Ranger with perhaps a bit of Rogue or Monk or both. The Gloomstalker class would give him the ability to see in the dark and fighter skills while Rogue could give him cunning action. Likely a Gloomstalker 12, Rogue 2, Shadow Monk 6. Start with Rogue so you get the skills and put expertise in Stealth and either Perception or Investigation as the second expertise. Obvious feats would be Toughness and Sharpshooter for your Darts (Batarangs). With these classes you can see and operate in the shadows with ease while being hard to pin down as you seem to step out of nowhere as Batman usually does. The Monk class will allow you to still be offensive when stripped of all belongings or operating in disguise. One other option would be to strip Monk and be a Ranger Gloomstalker 7 Rogue Assassin 13 as batman has been seen to impersonate people as well as infiltrate societies. You will need Tavern Brawler feat with these classes to compensate for lack of monk hand to hand damage and you will lose some toughness with the loss of Ranger levels. Human variant is your race.

A bit late to this comment section, but wanted to mention that allowing Strength for Intimidation checks instead of Charisma is a fairly commonly used homebrew rule in my experience. If that's the case in your game, then you can easily dump Charisma for this build so you don't have such a weak Constitution. Since other than your Intimidation you aren't using Charisma for much and Constitution is super important. Although if you wanna roleplay the playboy Bruce Wayne part of his character, I suppose Charisma may be used more.

No question of a doubt if you want to make the ultimate versatile batman with a utility belt you need to get the school of conjuring.

I think 3 lvls shadow monk, 2 lvls rogue, and the rest in either battle master or champion fighter. Shadow monk for the darkness teleporting, very little in rogue because rogues pretty much get all the skills that you want out of rogue at 2 maybe three if you want the inquisitor subclass, and then everything else into battle master. This is probably a strength Batman, dumping charisma. We really only lose intimidation with that but you can still pick up proficiency. This batman is probably more of a Ben afleck batman. Also, would be interesting to see the same exact build but swap the monk levels with gloomstalker ranger, and swap the fighter levels with armourer artificer.
@captaink80932 жыл бұрын
If this were to be made today I would bet he would weird amalgamation of artificer, rogue, and ranger
@johnlowkey3595 жыл бұрын
I always see super hero builds, especially Batman, go for monk. Hand to hand combat is just as much a convention of super hero comics as swords and staffs are for fantasy. Secondly, Batman is not a monolith; there are so many incarnations and a variety of writers who highlight different aspects. A Bob Kane Batman more closely resembles an Inquisitive Rogue, whereas Frank Miller's Dark Knight could be represented as a Vengeance Paladin. Wizard even makes sense for someone who wants to highlight the incredible planning abilities of a gadget reliant version, even though magic missile honestly seems less accurate than batarangs...

I just recently discovered this channel, and I like it, but I kinda wish there was less gadgets-as-magic and more looking at equipment and magic items. Also maybe point-buy instead of standard array? Feel like Cap and Bats are each more all-arounders than dump stat folks.
@The_Crimson_Witch4 жыл бұрын
(I know this is an old comment, but I just found it sooooo... Eh) These builds are made to be as playable as possible, regardless of your DM. Since standard array is, well, the most commonly used method of stat generation (not to mention what is used in adventer's league) and therefore what Tulok uses. As for items, there is never any guarentee your DM will dish out magic items. And if they do, the chances of them dishing out the exact items you desire is so minimal, to base an entire build around it would be insane. Not to mention it would rely on you begging your DM none-stop, which is annoying from a DM stand-point. If you want items to use with this build, here's my three picks: Cloak of the bat would for sure be in his arsonal. Sums up Bat's cloak almost perfectly. Amulet of health is another one. There is no way Batman would leave himself vulnrebale in any area, if he had something like this in comics he'd for sure use it. (A few follow ups to that would be: Gauntlets of Ogre strength and Headband of intellect. Stat boosting items are a must have for any paranoid man. Amulet of health is just the most important cause his con is 8 and attunement slots.) Ring of Evasion. A backup plan for your backup plan. If your dex save fails and you really don't wanna get hit (despite having Evasion) you can just say nope and succeed.

I would make him a monk with the aristocrat background and the shadow path at level 3. He would have bat shaped darts and Alfred as a butler provided by the knight alternative from the aristocrat background.

I would've gone 5 in armourer artificer, 3 in gloomstalker ranger and 12 in inquisitive rogue. Take either thrown weapon master or the cantrip fighting style from ranger and swap magic initiate for fighting initiate and take the unarmed fighting style from that

My Batman character was Dex build Vengeance Paladin (Defensive Fighting) + 4 levels Rogue (Trickster) + 2 levels Fighter (Dual Wield ended up a Sword of Sharpness and a Short Sword of Warning). Background Criminal-knowing and making contact with criminal organizations. Feats: Magic Initiate and Investigation. I would have gone Shadow Monk instead of Fighter but we already had a full time Shadow Monk in the group.

I would go with Gordon and Lucius if I was going to do that. So you'd have Personal Butler, Cop, and Businessman. That's a pretty good trio of assistance if you ask me. It's not like you need more combatants. You're running around with a full squad of them already. It'd be like running around with The Justice League and Batman saying, "Not enough." Wouldn't happen.

Mandatory reminder, since I didn't hear it (I was admittedly only half-listening, so it is possible it was said): Sneak Attack specifically ONLY works with ranged or FINESSE weapons. This does not apply to monk weapons OR unarmed strikes, unless their phb entry says the weapon has the finesse trait. Being a monk weapon does not grant finesse, nor does any other method of attacking with dexterity instead of strength.

I'm playing a batman-esque character in my friend's campaign. I took Arcane Trickster instead of the magic initiate feats. I kinda screwed up and took vengence paladin, cause yaknow... he's vengeance?? mechanically it doesn't really work so much tho....
@lt.branwulfram47943 жыл бұрын
The slots from Arcane Trickster and Paladin grants more chances to damage with a Divine Smite, which can be combined with a Sneak Attack for even more damage. With 13 Rogue, 7 Paladin, that’s d8 piercing + 7d6 Sneak Attack + 5d8 radiant or 2d8 piercing + 17d6 + 10d8 radiant on a crit for crazy damage. However, Paladin does require a Str & Cha investment and the extra Dex & Int from Arcane Trickster makes the character quite MAD.
