A good combo starter I found with Captain Falcon for newer to average level players is down b directly into an up b if it connects, landing on the stage again and then using the neutral air to keep them off the stage and work from there.

Honestly ZeRo, this is a garbage guide. You missed a huge list of the important traits of falcon. Ftilt is pretty much falcon being able to use a marth/lucina move. I have no idea why you "wouldnt find yourself using it". Its reaches REALY far, and its very fast. You can just dash around using this to space out your opponents. It also can lead to tech chases, which mean BIG damage potential kills and much more. IMO one of falcons best moves, and in the future i think the falcon meta will focus heavy on this move into tech chases. His side b as invincibility on hit. This is nuts, you can use it as an agressive approaching counter-esque thing. In addition to its combo potential, fast startup, this is a very useful move. UTilt also has invincibility, its on falcons leg for the duration of the move. Its quite good at comboing due to the fact that its a grounded spike. The fact that this is a fast, grounded spike, starts combos, and you can do it out of a dash, and its partial invincible is actually insane. UAir can combo into itself, and into UpB. This means you can do like ZSS, or metaknight kill combos off the top. I mean there is alot more, falcon is def one of the more deep characters in this game, and the potential he has is staggering. Its pretty obvious ZeRo is just pumping out these guides for ad revenue, without doing a whole lot of playing and understanding the character. Fatality Falcon despite realigious playing nearly only falcon since launch, and being the #1 falcon in smash 4, has came out and said multiple times that its way to early for even him to make a falcon guide since there is still so much to learn about how to play the character.

If you’re struggling chaining nairs, you gotta fast fall right after your second hit, then buffer dash jump nair quickly after. Also captain falcon’s backflip was in smash 4, but he did it pike (legs were straight, like when you bend over and touch your toes), but a tuck is obviously a smaller position.

I should've checked out this video when it was fresh because before, I kept trying to play Ultimate Falcon like he was Smash 4 Falcon. I'll put this new tech to practice in the meantime. Edit, it's been 2 years and I've returned to relearn C. Falcon's fundamentals. There've been times where I was Schmoovin' with Falcon using this knowledge but since then, I've sort of dropped the character. Recently I've been trying to pick him up and I've been having a tough time with Falcon online so coming back here was a big help. I hope all goes well with you Zero and that you recover soon.

Up-tilt can spike off the ledge if they haven’t grabbed yet. I tried it. Either they came up above the ledge just a tiny bit before grabbing or you have a few frames before they grab to spike.

On characters with bad to mediocre recoveries that will have to grab the ledge or come close to it you can use up tilt and those characters will be spiked with no return. Zero suit and Mario are solid examples of who you can do this on easily.

Falcons forward tilt gives him a new neutral option thanks to it canceling out of dash like all tilts, and its quite effective rather than smash 4 falcons neutral simply being Vegito's in DBFZ where you run at them and throw out normal's and hope for the best

Been a hardcore Falcon main for years, over 400 hours on him alone in smash 4, and I actually kind of hate him in ultimate. They nerfed him hard and compensated him little compared to what they took away. Down throw is completely useless against an opponent who just holds down and away, up air can't hit small standing characters, and worst of all, knee doesn't feel that hype anymore. The shiny light, loud electricity noise, and the red sparks from smash 4 made it so satisfying, and now the only thing that makes it slightly hype is the slow motion finish, which every move has

He may have been nerfed in some areas but got buffed in others and fatality even said he thinks falcon might be even better than in. You can't do neutral air strings like you could in smash 4. 1 because neutral air COMBOS into itself, and 2 because it has nothing to do with strict timing, but it's actually a different sequence. It's hard to explain but in smash 4 you move forward and then fast fall, but in this game you fast fall and then move forward. It's not necessarily about timing, but you have to get used to the flow.

So I've been trying to familiarize myself with some of the advanced techniques of general smash gameplay, but I'm curious if you or someone can explain a little more in depth about what situations call for which techniques. For example, when is it better to short-hop into f-air when charging at someone and when is it better to just hit them with dash attack? I feel like I'm wasting effort trying to get short-hop into aerial attacks to connect when its almost always less risky to just go for a dash attack in my experience, but I assume that's only because I'm not implementing them into my battles properly yet. Or how about some in depth edge-guarding advice, like when is it viable to use which types of attacks in order to punish opponents getting back on to the edge?

Edge guarding is entirely character dependent. Who do you play? Also spamming short hop into nair or fair is more for low lag/ priority attack characters like fire emblem sword characters for instance. Same with offstage edge guarding. You want a character who's attacks take priority so you can get the confirm.

shorthop fair allows you to escape faster in case they shield, if you dash and get shield you will just get hit or grabbed. With shorthop fair you can use the second jump to move away.

I hate how technical Falcon is now, back in smash 4 he was so fluid, I could dash attack some one jump backwards air dodge read a back air into grab down throw into up air knee or air-dodge read for a knee. Falcon was an amazing character and so fun to play. by far his best and most fun iterations. I could win most match ups excluding Bayonetta. usually getting over whelmed with her BS. But most other match ups were fair and I could easily hold my own, but here combined with the new input lag and weird buffering system I get hit because of a delayed air dodge or throw out moves I never intended. It's really hard to change something that you're hard wired to do. I miss how Falcon could combo out of almost anything and adapt to any situation. He was a major threat, but here, since end lag on moves is reduce to a ridiculous level, it's hard to punish anything. I love Ultimate, but I hate how it feels and all it's new mechanics. It's no longer feels rewarding to force your opponent to do something to avoid a hit since reading directional air dodges with little lag is so hard. I've spent a long time trying to get good, but so far I'm mediocre at best, my smash 4 reflexes still happen, if someone whiffs a move, I run in for a dash grab just to get spot dodged and punished for trying. I know I can't do it anymore, but it's just muscle memory at this point. Hopefully, in the next patch they reduce input lag and fix the buffer as well and increase lag on moves that should be laggy. Such as smashes. This game just isn't as fun or as rewarding to play. And I can't go back to smash 4 because the game is dying and no one decent plays it anymore.

Hey, I'm having a lot of trouble keeping my jumps so close to the ground which see through your tutorial is essential for neutral and side airs. Did you have any tips? (first smash game btw pls dont hate me)

gloop32 If you want to do a Short Hop attack, press the Jump button and attack button at the same time.
