How to Play Sonic in Smash Ultimate

This video is really cool, but there’s a couple points ZeRo made in this video that aren’t correct. 1. Spin Dash, while NOT FULLY CHARGED, stop at shield. However, when the spin dash is FULLY CHARGED (to the yellow aura) or even a little bit before max charge, the move still goes through shield. 2. ZeRo was attempting to combo Spin Dash into jumping Uair. The reason it wasn’t really working (and why going for Nair or Fair is better) is because Ultimate actually nerfed Sonic’s Uair. His Uair is less consistent from first hit to last hit, meaning that the combo will fail sometimes. Also, this change may also relate to the weird property of the falling Uair combo ZeRo talked about. 3. When comparing Spin Dash to Spin Charge, ZeRo said that Spin Charge (Down Special) was interesting because you can jump out of it in order to combo (implying that this wasn’t the case with Spin Dash). However, Spin Dash and Spin Charge, for the most part, have the exact same combos. A more detailed comparison between the two: -Spin Dash is single hit, Spin Charge is multihit -Spin Dash has knockback in its single hit, Spin Charge’s last hit is the only one that does (the first hits don’t cause knockback. Instead, the simply hit the opponent when contact is made and may cause tripping if on the ground). -Spin Dash charges by holding B, Spin Charge requires multiple button presses -While charging Spin Dash you can jump and maintain your charge, jumping while charging Spin Charge cancels the move into a jump 4. ZeRo didn’t mention the changes on Sonic’s Dair. The spike hit box has been altered. In Smash 4, the hit box was right after Sonic started going down. In Ultimate, the hit box is right when Sonic starts moving down. It’s a subtle change, but it makes going for Dair spikes off ledge different. Please let me know if I got anything wrong or forgot anything important!

i actually think sonic has potential to be better in this game vs smash 4. before he was such a 1 dimensional character. yeah they nerfed spin dash but they also buffed some things such as the hit box on dair as well as the option to do tilts from running and the option to air dodge after using up B for additional recovery, and thats only a few things we know as of now. as the game progresses i have a good feeling sonic might be more broken then before. with the right person playing him and using all his options nobodies gunna know what to do against him.

Sonic can also pull off the "spinshot" technique just like Smash 4. Just hold side B, then as your about to release quickly flick the C stick upward and you'll launch yourself in the air. It's a really safe recovery option

I'm glad you said not to be afraid using spin. Mr.Zero you forgot his down air witch haves a metor affect and sour spot can be tricky to take a stock on top of the blast zone but it works and dash attack is good too just a kick minus the spin.

Hey ZeRo nice video but I think you forgot to mention a few things. You completely ignored the down air and how its good to kill offstage and near ledge. Also a simple spin dash combo is using spin dash into homing attack and into any aireal but back aireal is the suggested option. I think thats it but you did really well with video, good job
