Yea I had a few online matches playing as Roy that I lost because of sourspots that I know I for a fact I would’ve won had I been playing chrom instead. Now I’m sure it’s partially me not being all that amazing at Roy since I don’t play him much so my ability to utilize his spacing isn’t the best but the sourspot made me miss out on so many potential kills that, had I been playing chrom, I would’ve secured. I still like both characters though so I’ll be practicing them regardless and hopefully I can make Roy work but it honestly seems pointless to play Roy when you have chrom around.

The shorthop shortcut benefits all 6 of the anime sword guys cause their air attacks cover so much space and with an instant hit box that doesn’t go over the opponent. Many other fighters have to do true shorthop and fast fall to hit a grounded opponent.

I honestly think I will use Roy more than Chrom. The reasons for that are that his recovery is better and I really like the fire attacks. The only real downside with Roy is his sweetspot, but if I just approach, that should be overcomeable. Also, Roy is our boi!

As a small update to Chrom's Aether: they buffed him with a VERY slight drift to the move when recovering. It's almost unnoticable, but by god it helps a hell of a ton in those moments where you swear you were close enough to the edge to grab it.

His up special is crazy good to punish people who don't know how to properly ledge guard. If they're too close to the ledge and you challenge them with the up special, you can get a kill confirm and still grab the ledge if you hit them with the first hit properly.

I wouldn't say Chrom is the best swordsman he's just easier and more fun, Roy can do most of these things too he just doesn't have consistent hit boxes and he doesn't have aether but other than that its the same shit, later on its likely that Roy/Chrom will be similar to Marth/Lucina where Roy is more rewarding but Chrom is just easier to use. But you knew that already ZeRo since your such a great player.

didn't c any mention of this, if u face the stage on the edge and use up b, if u grab em on the part that goes up u can slightly move the position horizontally so u KO em with the downspike while u grab the edge and survive, not sure if player input can prevent it but used it on spirit board quite alot.

Chrom has a ton of weaknesses, he's not as amazing as everyone thinks. Simon and Richter are easy counter picks against nearly all the swordsmen in the game. The only instance of trouble I've had out of a swordsman character was from an Ike. I've not lost a match to a Chrom once when choosing characters that can outspace, outmaneuver and ledgeguard him easily.

Well that's just the triangle. Brawlers lose to swords, swords lose to zoners, zoners lose to brawlers. Of course these are just bad match ups naturally but can all be played in a way to overcome. Swords can beat zoners if they stay close, zoners can beat brawlers if they effectively read approaches. Stuff like that.

They should consist of the best characters from separate playstyles. The best brawler imo is Ken. The best Swordsman imo is Ike, Cloud a close second. And the best zoner is Young Link.

Note about Chrom's up-B vs. Ike's- Ike can use his offensively much better, but Chrom is better at spiking. Reason being is actually quite simple- When Ike uses Aether, he tosses his sword in the air- this leaves a but hitbox right where he is going to jump, and makes timing much simpler as should the opponent be above Ike at any point in the move, they'll get hit However, it can knock them away from or give them a chance to DI out of Ike's spike. Chrom, however, does NOT throw his sword. Meaning that unless Chrom is right next to the opponent or jumps at just the right time, his aether will miss. However, this also means should Chrom hit, he will get his spike just about every single time, as the opponent will right away be struck into it should it land.

Add-on for spiking- if opponent walks off the ledge to baby sit you, up-B winds up being a free kill, as it spike them right next to the ledge, and Chrom still grabs on. Ike can technically do this if they walk off at the wrong time, but usually they'll just be hit by the sword and put back on stage.

My friend is a Link main, and he said that using Link’s Up Air during the “Chrombo” puts Link higher than Chrom off the stage so that Chrom dies first. I don’t know if that’s exactly true, but he does not die to the Chrombo before me when he plays as Link.

I have a question. How would I go about approaching projectile users? Such as R.O.B, all the Links, etc. Maybe even Wolf if they choose to run away and use Blaster all the time. I can deal with Snake pretty well by jumping over everything he throws at me, but for some reason I struggle against all the others. What should Chrom do in neutral against these type of characters? How do I approach? Or do I just bait them to approach? I'm a little lost.
