I jumped to MPC 2+years ago. I decided to print out proxies of staples and land bases for my then 30 or so EDH decks. Was a waste of time to by 5 set of shocks or fetches and moving cards between decks is tedious at best. Now I have 100 decks and since I only play EDH, screw WOTC. I buy singles from my lgs to support the store but no more sealed and expensive cards I just proxy. I mean I have a huge collection, played since 1995 but it is just a huge waste to spend on sealed product.

I've bought from MPC several times and it's always come out great. A tip: you can use MPCFill to see the card backs to verify that your MDFCs are correct. But also, on the back side you can manually enter in card names and get another card on the back. So what I did was print one deck on one side of the cards, then entered another deck on the reverse side. If I get bored with a deck, I can just spend some time flipping cards around and redoing the mana to get a whole new deck! With the full 612 card option I squeezed in 7 whole decks on the front side and 7 more on the back for around $200 with shipping. 14 EDH decks will keep me occupied for a long time, and even though it is expensive, it is worth it imo

As an update on this: I have since moved to proxying the entire deck, basic lands included. This is better, as it means I have to to very little thinking, just flip the cards and move on. It limits you to about 12 decks in an order of 612 cards, but that's generally more than enough. For MDFCs, your staples like Bala Ged Recovery and the new MH3 lands, I like to color coordinate between decks as much as possible. For instance, if your deck is running blue you likely want Sink Into Stupor // Soporific Springs in both decks as a counterspell or land as needed. But in cases where that isn't possible, some proxy makers have put MDFCs on a single card face like the old Kamigawa flip cards, which is quite nice. But most typically what I do is notate which cards go in which deck on a spreadsheet and which to swap out. But if I want to do it on the fly I use very small stickers placed in the text box of a card, color coordinated to its swap partner. For example if I'm running Docent of Perfection // Final Iteration in my Balmor spellslinger deck, but not in my Optimus Prime deck, I'll put a red sticker in the corner and a red sticker on say a basic land and swap them out as needed. Then do the same for blue, green, however many other cards need to be swapped. Though at the moment the highest number of cards I have to do this with is 3, there's generally not that much need for it. Hope that helps for other folks just playing Commander and don't want to spend a ton on cards!

I use the Alt art from MPC fill a lot because luckily all the playgroup I ever been in, love seeing cool art and don't give a dam that I use proxies. In fact they get excited whenever I get an order in and have a new art for sol ring that just looks badass. So am kinda curious why you want to focus on just the more boring OG art? Is it concern over your play group of having a particular player copping you out on not owning the "real card" or is just art preference? It helps I already own most of the expensive staples already like force of will, mana crypt, dockside ETC because I been playing the game since I was like 10 lol and am now 30. So they cannot bash me over that or complain for me for not paying 50 bucks for new card X and I always have a range of decks so that I do not pub stomp anyone as I respect that not everyone proxies and I have some fully proxied decks so if someone wants to try out a higher power level can without me worrying about my more expensive cards getting destroyed or stolen. In fact the only time I every use my real Force of will, mana crypt dockside etc are in official EDH tourneys which require real cards, although many cEDH tourneys do allow for proxies so long as you pay for entry for the tournament they don't care and want you to bring their best deck and the proxy writing is legliable. Tangentially I am designing a tribal commander cube currently and am going to make it fully proxy to try and have everyone playing with cool as hell art work and not having to personally worry about lost value for people treating game pieces as game pieces. :)

I just personally enjoy the asthetic of OG Magic art. There's definitely a few cards that I want some alter art for just because I don't like mtg art, but I enjoy like that early 2000s border and style of cards. It's awesome your play group is cool with custom arts! And I think it's double cool your cedh shop allows proxies in tournaments! Wish all places did that for all tournaments haha
