I used to work in a small chain record store years ago and I would always play James Taylor over the speaker system. One day the owners came by for a visit and made me turn James off. Said I should only play the new chart stuff; "the stuff we want to sell". I guess what they never realised is that I was always sold out of James Taylor CD's. Whenever I hear him, I'm always taken back to my time in the music shop. Great guitar player.

Nice one! Years ago I would watch James Taylor and think, "No way" I'll never be able to play like that. But your knack of simplifying it and de-mystifying the art of finger picking makes it seem within reach, with just a little practice. Bravo!

Merci beaucoup for this, Pilgrim. You are such an enthusiastic picker and you have great taste in music. I started to watch Lee Sklar during the lockdown, who was JT's bassist in the band that also featured Carole King. When we went to people's houses in the 1970s, the first thing we'd do was look at the record collection. Everyone had Tapestry.

Can't thank you enough Pilgrim! JT is one of my all-time favorite artists, yet due to the intricacies of his playing, I've found it extremely difficult to learn many of his songs. Case in point, I've been trying (and failing) to learn Copperline for at least a decade. I'm happy to say that thanks to this video, I'm now on my way to mastering it. You broke it down perfectly for a layman like me. Also, you're right, once you learn the main riff it is wildly addicting to play over and over!

Heard this song, used to have the album on tape, but now I appreciate how complicated it is. 😱 Kudos!

Good one Thom! JT is not only a great fingerpicker but great singer/performer as well. Good thing that he was able to kick his drug habit and get back to living his life. Hope that you & that little are doing well! 👍👍
