Thanks for the great lesson. The reason why people are not getting faster is mostly that they don't make small cirkels while picking with the wirst. They play up and down and with the arm and there is no way you can go faster then 190 bpm, even if you practice your whole life. You not see it are small cirkels when making very small motions, but this is the most important thing I ever found out to build speed almost endless .
@gr8guitarplayer2 жыл бұрын
When my students get stuck at 190 16th notes, I say, "You're done. That's fast enough." lol Oh and, great stuff! Thank you. There's probably an old post of mine praising these tips also, because I keep coming back to you every time you post something on the Fractal forum.

I found this helpful. Especially the mention of playing with finger motion instead of wrist motion. I did both (without knowing it) and I think this is why I was inconsistent despite a lot of practice. Going with wrist motion (only) has also fixed the problem I had with the pick "turing around" in my hand while I played. I tried so many picks and grips but neither was the problem! (I'm back to using a Jazz III.) Thank you so much!
@Cthulhu_Awaken Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I do that too and still haven't figured how to fix that. I mean, I tried locking all my fingers like Ozz, but then I feel uncomfortable and my hand feels pretty heavy and not so nimble as with my usual two finger grip...
@MarkRhodesSongs Жыл бұрын
@@Cthulhu_Awaken What made it all fall in place was changing my hand position. I used to anchor my hand on the bridge but now anchor with my wrist or forearm (near the wrist) on the face of the guitar above the strings between the pickups. Nothing magic about this. (I have big hands and a long arm.) But when I do this, it’s all wrist motion. 🤷♂️

Hi Ozz, why do you say at 1:52 that you need to pick hard in order to improve / get faster? Is there any explanation for this? Thanks so much, this video is brilliant :)
@OzzGuitar Жыл бұрын
Sure guitar playing is like heavy lifting when you talk about speed so to improve your muscles you need to keep pushing your limits and increase the weights that you lift. As guitarists, we can pick harder, practice with thicker strings or practice with an acoustic guitar.
@downcode Жыл бұрын
@@OzzGuitar Gotcha, I didn't consider that muscles need to be developed in the picking hand in order to play fast, interesting. My first though was that you suggested picking hard so that you can clearly hear your mistakes. Thanks so much !
