How To Play Good Enough By Van Halen : Good Enough Guitar Lesson

In this video I demonstrate how to play Good Enough by Van Halen. I cover all the cool licks and fills as well as the guitar solo. This is the opening track off of the Van Halen album 5150 and it is absolutely brilliant. Eddie was on fire and totally inspired with the onset of Van Hagar joining the band. Truly magical years. They recently released the 1984 movie "The Wild life" with Chris Penn on DVD after years of legal music licensing issues. Anyways the score was done by Eddie and alot of the incidental music was Eddie just noodling around on some riffs aka Good Enough & Right Now (Pre 5150 and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge). Pretty Cool to hear these in a raw format. Thought I would share.

There’s a signature ed lick you’re leaving out of this that he does before he starts messing around in the a minor pentatonic box at the 17th fret. Slide into the f# at the 16th fret d string then grab the A note on the 14th fret g string and then grab the b string at the 17th fret and bend it a minir 3rd (one whole step and a half, e to g) and then grab the b string at the 20th fret and bend that a whole step.

You play it correctly at 4:28.or so. I think he bounces between the D and C. Timing is a bit tricky on that opening riff. Tone sounds great man!

There’s a f# he hits in one lick of his solo that definitely clashes with the underlying tonality.
