In this "How to play in DADGAD" lesson, I teach you what I call the "Minor DADGAD skeleton scale". It's the D minor scale up the guitar neck with the addition of an interval of a third. This Celtic sounding scale is a great one to build upon for accompanying Irish music.
Check out the Major Skeleton Scale here - • How To Play In DADGAD ...
Once this is learned on the inside D & G strings, you can play the same shapes with all the strings opened up to release that big open DADGAD sound. You can then add any rhythm you want to this pattern and jump around the fretboard. It's a great way to get creative and I've come up with a lot of melodies and chord sequences this way.
We will build upon this Celtic D Minor scale for Irish music in future lessons.
If you enjoy the lesson you'll probably like my DADGAD Guitar Cheat Sheet. It's 100% FREE and shows you the essential chord shapes and progressions you'll need to learn fast. You can get it right here: aodancoyne.com...

I've played the major version but for some reason never tried the minor version. Simply brilliant. My minor accompanying is taking a leap with this and especially with the the full chord scales in all keys in your course. Thanks!

I clicked on this video, followed the instructions and everything, no issues, the only issue came when I glanced at the amount of views and saw 350? This kind of content without a single doubt deserves far more than that. Subscribed, liked, and commenting so the algorithm picks you up.

Waste of time... To know music theory to play music it's like to have pHD in Linguistics to write the books or to know quantum physics to cook you food. Any time you hear "scale" or "pentatonic" in guitar tutorial - just turn it off and look for something else. There's only one case when you need music theory - if you compose multi-instrumental pieces to conform whole tonal range. And you'll know and understand music theory from other sources at that point. Folk Irish musicians never heard about scales and modes nor minor neither major. These tutorials made by people without any valuable knowledge to share and music theory gives them endless amount of "subjects" to speak about for "likes" and attention. If you will play scales for 100 hours - you'll end up playing scales. If you'll play 100 hours of music - you will play music. It's you to decide what you prefer to play : scales or music. And you have to choose your teachers accordingly.

Lol. You seem to have some strong opinions there SugarTouch.. Thanks for sharing.. Of course, there's no need to have PdD in linguistics to write a book, but knowing the alphabet, how to spell, and basic grammar helps. Likewise, knowing some scale patterns and pentatonic runs can be beneficial for your music-making. As an example, here's a song to demonstrate this exact 'minor skeleton scale' which I teach in this tutorial being used in context: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4C0eGSCfMdsp7M Hopefully it shows why some people might find learning this scale useful and not a waste of time. I try to help people learn DADGAD tuning and how to play Irish guitar by sharing what I've found works for me. Have a good day man 👍
