I like the idea of a spell caster that could only cast the Spells from the First 5 “spell cards” they draw for the day. I think the Crusader in 3rd edition had something in kind of the same theme. Basically you'd get access to a pair of your readied maneuvers at the start of each encounter, and can only use those, then each round you draw a card and gain the ability to use that each turn until you run out of cards, where you then put the deck back together, shuffle and draw 2 new cards from your deck.

I can't begin to describe how much I've been looking forward to this. The lack of physical combat skills isn't quite accurate though. I'd drop the twentieth level of wizard, raise his DEX to 13 at the level where you rounded off his wisdom, possibly forego some of the CHA increases (proficiency bonus does most of the work anyway) to round off and further increase the DEX and WIS, and make him a monk for at least 1 level. Kaiba physically overpowers a number of thugs twice his age in the Duelist Kingdom arc and there are plenty of wizard spells he can take on the side (since you did the usual shortlist approach to wizard spells to make sure the video wasn't a week long) to buff that one level in a martial class. It'll also make his AC a lot better, with or without mage armor. I would've just straight up suggested one of the transformation spells, but he doesn't transform; Kaiba is just a legit badass :P Mind you, if we were trying to be completely on brand, we'd make him a sorcerer; his complete refusal to believe that anything he's doing is even magical just fits the class too well (and lets you keep CHA up) but I'm fairly certain it doesn't allow a build anywhere remotely near this good at summoning.

You can summon multiple creatures at once, though. As early as level 5. Just use Glyph of Warding. A concentration spell cast with a spell glyph created with Glyph of Warding will last its full duration without concentration. Granted, casting Glyph of Warding takes an hour and you can't move the glyph more than 10 feet from where it was cast, but standing in one spot and taking hours to make your move is perfectly in-character for Kaiba. Or any Yu-Gi-Oh character, for that matter.

I’ve actually taken the time to build a home brew duel monster sub class for wizards. The main spell is one that any class can cast if they have spell slots but the wizard subclass is the best at it since it gets some class-specific skills to summon faster, stronger, etc. the monsters have no hp at all, their attack and defense determine their AC, if they get hit they go poof but they can hit like a truck. I worked hard on it and have shown it to people but finding the time and dm to be able to try it out and play test it is the real trick.

Duel Monster Wizard School of magic that uses their arcane power to summon various monsters and creatures to do their bidding. When this school is chosen the wizard uses a ritual to create a deck of cards which is basically a new spellbook, each card holding a spell or a monster. The spells may be used as they normally are but the monsters require specific skills to use. The deck starts with 5 monsters and the wizard may add 1 new one for free whenever a new wizard level is achieved. Any other class may also use this ritual to create a deck of duel monster spirits but they will only start with 1 + player’s level of monsters. They may still add 1 new monster to their deck whenever they level up from then on. If a card is destroyed (burn, ripped, etc) then it is unable to be used to summon its monster and the wizard must perform the ritual again. Summon Duel Monster- Spell- level 1, normal action, any class, verbal and material component (the duel monster’s card, not used up in the casting), requires at least 1 Duel Monster Spirit to be bonded to the caster, summons 1 duel monster whose level is equal to or less than the spell slot used to cast. The monster appears within a space large enough to hold it within 10 ft x it’s level away from the caster. The summoned monster lasts until destroyed, dismissed by the summoner, or until the next long rest. If dismissed the summoner regains the spell slot used to summon it. The summoner may have a number of monsters in play equal to his spellcasting modifier up to a maximum of 5 but can only have monsters take actions each turn equal to his proficiency modifier. If a monster has taken its turn already and he still has proficiency left it may not go again unless specifically able to (has Haste in effect or similar circumstances). The creature either stands on the ground, flies, swims, or uses whatever other modes of transport it may have depending on its type and abilities, and may carry one non-spirit item object that is its size or smaller. The monster may also be equipped with a special duel monster spirit item that the player chooses to give it. It may only be pre-equipped with 1 item but after its summoning it may be given more, up to 1/2 its level rounded up, and all but 1 of these items must all be duel monster items (can carry a potion or something but not 12 of them). These items can be made, found, bought, or can be called from the Duel Monster Spirit World (Shadow Realm for short). To bring one of these items from the Shadow Realm the player needs to have an item of the appropriate size and shape to be a vessel for the power of the desired item. Example, a sword could be turned into a Noble Arms sword. These spirit weapons appear as similar cards to the monsters which detail the equipment’s abilities. The higher the magical value and price of the original item the higher power/rarity of the summoned item. When the equipped monster is dismissed the additional equipment is dropped to the ground where the monster was last, and if the dropped equipment was one of the spirit weapon cards then the item reverts to its card form and cannot be re-equipped to any monster until the next long rest. These spirit weapons can not be used by any other type of creatures, only duel monsters can wield them.
@Aku94662 жыл бұрын
The summoned monster is able to move up to 10ft x it’s level/rank/(link rating x 2) per turn and may make 1 movement and 1 action each turn. While in attack positions its AC is equal to it’s attack points/100 and it’s attack (no roll unless specifically gains the ability from an item or spell effect) is it’s attack power/100. When in defense position it’s AC is its defense points/100 and the monster is treated as if it has taken the Dodge action. The monster has no HP at all. It’s body is stable until struck with sufficient force to break its form at which point it disintegrates (beat AC with an attack is enough). A monster may be summoned in or put into defense mode as one of the monster’s actions during its turn, which forces disadvantage on any enemy attacking that creature. The defending monster is unable to attack during the turn it is placed in defense position unless otherwise stated by its own abilities, but is still able to move as normal (movement, reactions, etc, just no attacks). A monster may also be summoned “face down” by the summoner, to surprise his enemies. When face down the monster is always treated as if it is in defense mode and is a medium sized creature, but it’s abilities and true form are not revealed until the summoner flips it face up (soonest possible to do this is the summoner’s next turn after the summoning) or when the monster is attacked/engaged by another. During this time the monster looks like a smoky shadowy form, which a player may be able to identify one aspect of (level, type, size, etc) with a successful Perception check, DC equal to the summoner’s stealth skill plus the monster in question’s level. At the point the monster is revealed by attack or flip summoning it’s true form is shown and it takes up the appropriate amount of space (if sufficient space is not available the monster is immediately destroyed and all creatures that were in the space that it tried to occupy (summoner included) take that monster’s normal attack die as force damage, half damage upon a successful Dexterity save equal to the summoner’s spell save dc plus the monsters level). If the flip was caused by an enemy attempting an attack then the newly revealed monsters stats are used as normal for determining damage. The monsters summoned have the same saves for each ability as their summoner + the monster’s level/rank/link. If a monster is destroyed it may not be resummoned that day until the wizard takes a short rest to choose a number of monster levels equal to his arcane recovery ability to reset for use in a similar fashion. The spell slots and the monsters may be chosen and recharged together rather than having to choose one or the other. Any non wizards may also choose a number of destroyed monsters to add to the deck during a short rest equal to half of their proficiency modifier rounded up. Each monster level deals a different amount of damage with their attacks. Level 1 1d4 Level 2 2d4 Level 3 3d4 Level 4 2d6 Level 5 4d6 Level 6 6d6 Level 7 6d8 Level 8 8d8 Level 9 8d10 Level 10 10d10 Level 11 10d12 Level 12 12d12 Due to Xyz monsters ranks being different than levels their damage output is determined by the rank multiplied by the number of material monsters used to summon them. (Nomts) Rank 1 1d4 x number of monsters to summon Rank 2 2d4 x nomts Rank 3 3d4 x nomts Rank 4 4d4 X nomts Rank 5 5d4 X nomts Rank 6 6d4 X nomts Rank 7 7d4 X nomts Rank 8 8d4 X nomts Rank 9 9d4 X nomts Rank 10 10d4 X nomts Rank 11 11d4 X nomts Rank 12 12d4 X nomts Like Xyz monsters Link monsters number of links determines their strength rather than a level. In addition, Link monsters are all completely unable to use defense positions entirely and have no defense points so if an opponent attacks the link monster’s attack strength is used at its AC using the normal rules (number divided by 100) Link 1 2d6 Link 2 4d6 Link 3 6d6 Link 4 8d6 Link 5 10d6 Link 6 12d6 Each monster has an elemental attribute which determines what type of damage it’s attacks deal. All attacks are treated as magical. Wind-slash Earth-bludgeon Water-cold Fire-burn Light-radiant Dark-necrotic Divine-force Each monster also has a type (fiend, fairy, dragon, etc) and those types are affected by spells and abilities that pertain to those types (dragon slaying weapons effect dragons, fiends by Protect vs Evil, etc). Every monster is different, so the player and dm must work together for specific details on range vs melee attacks, special abilities, and other factors for the monsters in question. Example, a warrior that fights with a bow would use ranged attacks exclusively while a beast with claws would use melee, etc. A duelist of any class starts the day with a number of monsters “in hand” (prepared) equal to half of his level rounded up to a maximum of 5, so a level 1 would have 1 in hand and a level 5 would have 3. This does not count against the number of spells the player can have prepared. Each turn as a free action the duelist may draw a random monster from his deck (dice roll determines which he draws).

Spell book is literally Toon World, and an Ersatz Eye is a must. Mirror Image becomes even more interesting, if reflavored into a swarm of toons floating around you. Summons can likewise be "toonified" versions of the local fauna and faces. Plus, Pegasus has an edge over Kaiba, in the fact that Illusion spells like Hypnotic Pattern, Nathair's Mischief, and illusions of walls can give some decent mid-fight control over the entire battlefield. So this is definitely the Duelist Kingdom version of Kaiba. Because, as we all know Seto is a Priest, which would be cleric. He also has a direct link to an Egyptian God: Obelisk the Tormentor, the God of Destruction At level 10 a cleric gains Divine Intervention, allowing you to attempt to call forth your God to directly intervene, but at level 20, its not an attempt, you straight up summon Obelisk the fucking Tormentor to Torment your opponents. This, is most likely, the most powerful level 20 feature in the game, as it allows you to actually Fist of Fate an army, theres no limits on what Divine Intervention can do, it's a God, it can do whatever your DM allows, and considering you just put 20 levels into roleplaying, they will likely allow it to summon a Titan and use its stat block. And, if you were to sacrifice your Blue Eyes while using Divine Intervention, perhaps your God sees fit to send you the true Ultimate Dragon to help you, the Avatar of Tiamat, which would be the 5 God Dragon and is a card commonly used in Kaiba decks in the meta. Remember, you dont have to sacrifice anything to activate Divine Intervention, but if you roleplay that you're sacrificing 3 monsters to summon your God, its more likely the DM is going to lean in your favor. Remember, this ability is MEANT to be an auto-win because its once per week, theres NO REASON they wouldn't let you straight up summon a God and just, win. I dont know about other conjuration spells as a cleric, but JUSt between the level 10 and 20 features, are the most in character for Priest Seto or Meta Seto, or even Battle City and everything afterwards Seto. Keep in mind this applies to anyone in yugioh. Yugi has Slifer, Marik has Ra, Joey was hinted that he could tame Ra as well in Yugioh Path of Chaos, and then theres the Orichalcos Serpent. Lots of "God tier" creatures to summon if you take any given Cleric subclass, and more in character than using holograms.

So, if the OG Yu-Gi-Oh main cast was a DnD party, it would be : Two wizards (Yugi and Kaiba), a paladin (Joey), a fighter (Tristan), a Bard/Clerc (Téa), a rogue (Duke), a warlock (Bakura) ?
@elizamalaguld90642 жыл бұрын
If that's the Duel Monsters cast, what about GX? Do we count (spoilers for the end of season 3 and all of the sub only season 4:) ... Jaden and Yubel as two separate entities, as one person, as a warlock and his patron...? And do we count Supreme King Jaden as his own person? Would he be an Oath of the Crown or Oathbreaker paladin? We need answers!
@chrispambo15392 жыл бұрын
@Eliza Malaguld That's a good question... I don't know all the rules needed to answer it but IMO, a solution to this could be Jay starting as a paladin then multiclassing as a warlock with Yubel as his patron and the Supreme King as a character trait or a backstory element/plot point.

I'd make Yugi a sorcerer as he has innate magical power.
@JackTheRipper4ever2 жыл бұрын
Nope. It's already been shown. Yugi (Wizard), Tèa (Cleric), Tristan (Gunslinger), Bakura (Cleric). If we were to expand on what has been given, Kaiba would be a Cleric, and Duke would be a Bard (A smooth, game store owner with a bunch of fun parlor tricks, but nothing really rogue-like). As for evil Bakura, considering what he is, he would get a class. He's the BBEG and a possessing force that never helps or benefits his host.

@@JackTheRipper4ever Duke would be a Bard solely because whatever he goes, everyone near him hears "Sexy Back" playing.

With Harengon being added via Beyond the Witchlight, I think it's time for... How to Build: Buggs Bunny from the Looney Tunes in DND, leave a like and comment if your a stinker, maybe. Intro, AVGN vs Buggs Bunny Goals for this build: 1. Comedy Gold: Your a Cartoon Comedian from a golden age of animation, your battles should be won through wits and tricks. Your not a pacifist, your a performer with jokes that pack a serious punch. 2. Toon Magic: Wanna see a magic trick, pull weapons from nowhere and some party tricks to get the drop on unsuspected mooks. 3. Wascally Wabbit: Use Deception and Disguise to avoid unsuspecting hunters and torment dastardly ducks. This build takes full advantage Witchlight's themes or wits and tricks over sheer brute force. Be the light of the party; comedy is of course subjective, but if your enemies aren't laughing then they'll have you saying "T-T-T-That's all folks!"

Surprised Kaiba isn't a Artificer 1/Wizard 19. Kaiba invents stuff like Duel Discs, he's a hackerman, and he may or may not have made a space elevator for the express purpose of breaking the laws of reality just so he could go duel a certain ancient Egyptian back in his prime.
@UncalibratedAimbot2 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of characters that would have to be Epic Level/ beyond level 20 to show off all their abilities. I agree that early Kaiba has artificer levels, but in the later seasons (and the most recent movie) his scientists do most of that for him. He basically traded in his Artificer levels to hit level 20 wizard

Back in 3.5, I played a Crusader from the Tome of Battle (Book of Nine Swords). I printed a bunch of mock Yu-Gi-Oh cards, replacing the text on it with the description of my known maneuvers. I could select which maneuvers to Ready after a rest, from my assortment of Known Maneuvers. That was building my deck from my collection. At the start of an encounter, 2-3 of my Readied maneuvers would be granted to me, at random, the rest being witheld. That was my starting hand. At the end of each turn a random previously witheld maneuver would be granted to me. "Draw for turn!" There I was playing Yu-Gi-Oh at the D&D table and out-geeking everyone else.

Planar Binding does not require concentration to maintain its effect, but casting a spell with a casting time longer than an action requires you to concentrate on casting the spell. (PHB p.202)

This totally inspired me to create a wizard that uses a spell deck instead of a spell book. And instead of choosing which spell from the book, he would randomly draw a card and cast.

Sky high Int and Cha. He’s dripping with both. High Dex, as is standard for Yugioh duelists Respectable Con. He’s an old man but he also only sips on alcohol all day so clearly his body is internally robust. Alternately, low con and a poison resistance Low strength (zero strength feats in the series) And medium-low Wis (he willingly uses dangerous magic to try and bring back his dead wife. Not the safest idea).

Another cost to look out for: most (if not all) of those Tasha’s summons require a 300-350 gp object as a material component, so that might be a problem at early levels. The spells themselves are fine and completely in-character, though.
