When I was a security guard way back when, I used to play this all the time. I understood how the numbers worked when locating the mines but didn't know clicking a number cleared spaces. I also used options to increase the size of the board. I was a minesweeper addict at the time. Almost zen-like when I played for hours.

@toilet paper you can only click on them when you flagged enough blocks around them so they match the numbers, and if you flagged it in the wrong places, you will just open blocks that contain mines and lose the game.

Last year, after playing this game on the very old computer I had for hours upon hours, I accidentally pressed a random square and actually won the entire game - just by clicking that one square. In like 1 second. I have no idea how that happened, but it was the greatest feeling of accomplishment I ever had. And I have never won a single Minesweeper game ever after that.

Your first click always gets counted as correct. I noticed that. If you played Knuckles Minesweeper on Sonic Battle, the first selection could be a mine, and that surprised me, because I noticed that it never happens in the original Minesweeper.

A tile is either a mine, a number, or empty. A number tile shows how many mines are included in its neighbouring squares (including diagonal.). Clicking on a number tile reveals it. Clicking on an empty tile reveals it and all of the other empty tiles touching each other, group of empty tiles will be surrounded with number tiles. Mine tiles has mine on them and ends the game if you click on one. Left click to reveal a tile, right click to flag the tiles that have mines in them. Middle click a revealed number tile to "chord" them, this means that it opens up every non revealed tiles around that number, excluding the flagged tiles. You can only chord a number tile if there are enough flags, 1 flag needs to be touching a 1 tile to chord it and so on. Meaning that if you play without flags to be fast, you wont be able to chord. You have to reveal every empty and number tiles, mine tiles do not have to be flagged to win.
