If your TV can see your PC but not the shared folder: right click the folder to be shared, click Include in Library and add it to the Videos library!

Thanks for this last step which makes the whole thing work. However i noticed that 4K videos are getting stuck after every 30 sec or so when played over WiFi connected home network. Hope to know if there is any workaround for this.

Very good tutorial. The main drawback i see is the lack of option to change the timeline of the movie like go forwards or backwards. Or am i missing something?

the folder im sharing isnt showing up on the tv and no video files are found . but the default video folder of windows does show up and when i copy my movies to that folder i can stream it on the tv . any idea how to fix it ?

Hello! It looks to me like you are the only channel on KZbin that posted a clip like this, congrats for that! The video was very helpful, however i have a little problem that i can't solve. So i'll just ask you, maybe you'll see this and maybe you'll have the time to help me. The thing is that my TV(it's Philips, if that helps you) can only see my C drive. So when i press on Videos and then Folders it shows me nothing...even tho i have a lot of films in my laptop. What should i do? What are my options? Do i have to move all my movies in the C drive, or there is something else ?

@@olivierbioul4364 well not exactly. In general this method will only work for hd movies. For sure not for 4k So I went 2 different ways. There is app and soft where calls PLEX. It's paid app. But you can install it on smart tv and pc even on your phone. All data you gonna have on PC you can watch it on any other device. Even 4k movies as long as your upload speed on pc gonna be appropriate. Another way is to get external hard drive or SSD. With USB 3.0 my tv also have 3.0 so I can watch 80gb movie with no issues.

@@bogdankovalov3018 thanks for you reply, sadly your second option was what i had working first external drive and usb connected at the tv but i messed up and both usb slots on tv are broken, the plastic of both were ripped of I did find finally a solution this morning with library folder and added the harddrive folders and sharing those, unfortunately the subtitles are not working but still now movies and tvshows easy to watch through wifi Thanks again for your reply and assistance Stay healthy and safe

Dear britec, first of all thans you for uploading this content, it was very helpfull. I have maneged to set my tv up, and im running win media file sharing on my tv Just like you in the video. However, im from the Nederlands i'd like to use subtitles. All my movies have subtiteles, are in the same folder and have the same name, but on my tv (LG) there is no option to turn them on and windows doesnt send them automaticly, is there anyway to activate this within windows 10? At the moment i am embedding some movies with subtitles using handbrake but it takes between 3 to 5 hours to do a full lengt movie!!! Hopefully you know a better solution, thnxxs in advance.

So I have followed these exact steps mentioned above in order to be able to view my shared files/folders on my Samsung TV 55NU7102. Now I am able to view movies on my TV from my PC, but only if the location of the movies is in the following folders "Default Videos" folder for Windows, "Default Pictures" folder for Windows and "Default Music" folder for Windows. So In those folders if I put a movie / picture / song, I am able to view them on my TV. However I also shared another folder from my "D:\" drive and I called it "Movies PC" and shared it as per the instructions in the video above. Unfortunately my Samsung TV is unable to view this "Movies PC" folder and I do NOT understand why ... what am I doing wrong ??? Can anyone help me out please ?

What if I do not download movies or torrents. If I want to stream from a web page because the samsung smart TV I have wants me to pay to use any of useful apps available , which I refuse to do. Is this how people use VLC, this is a bit out of my wheelhouse as software is your specialty. Using a mobile phone being interrupted by text and calls is rather unfavorable and the samsung tv cast app is a bit glitchy. It is a lot easier to manage pop up's on a computer also. I was going to setup the old PS3 as a DLNA but why go through the trouble when the TV is connected to my wireless network and that would require a compiled library again. Solutions ?

Most smart TV's have a USB (Mine has two) .. I simply transfer the movie to the USB and play direct from there.

It is very similar and actually even better with windows 7 because you can access your NAS drive as well on your DLNA App and even access M3U files sitting on your PC or NAS if your DLNA App plays them with a different media server. Addl video details that only work for win7 "dlna nas win7".

Found a solution. Step 1: Open Windows Media Player Step 2: Click on organize > manage libraries > videos Step 3: Add the folder with the movie in it Thats it worked for me

Series 7 TV perhaps? If so, they can't play anything that is not MP4/M4V/MKV. The file you're trying to play is almost certainly an AVI or otherwise. I have a similar problem and through exhaustive Googling, it turns out that the Series 6 didn't have this issue BUT the Series 7 (the one I have) does indeed have this issue. Check your TV. If it's a Series 7 like mine, you won't be able to play an AVI or other type file on it. Only MP4/M4V/MKV. People like you and I would need to come up with an alternative way.
