Elliot Easton had some of the most creative and memorable solo's in pop/rock history. So underrated.

They are so compact. Here is a new wave band, and he’s bringing in chicken pickin, rockabilly, hard rock, you name it. Who else did that? Each member of the band brought in so many dynamic layers to these perfectly crafted pop nuggets. Like you said - his work is so memorable and creative. And a southpaw.

I've spent 30 years playing metal. Needed to change things up or stagnation was gonna drive me to stop playing altogether. Been working on The Cars, Pixies, Cure, Devo, etc. This video and the one on the rhythm parts have been indispensable. I thank you so much for helping me get out of my creative rut and realizing I can play far more than I previously gave myself credit. Sometimes you just need a little helping hand and your videos have been exactly that. Perfect instruction, pacing, and delivery. As another person said here in the comments, I definitely owe you a beer!

Have always admired this solo. Wish the cars would have continued to keep his guitar out front. Just too damn good. Thank you for breaking this down accurately.

First time trying to play a Cars guitar solo. I have a new respect for Elliot Easton. This is a very unique style of soloing and it's difficult to get down, but when I want to learn to play something, I practice relentlessly until I can play it without even thinking about it. This one will just take longer. Thanks for the lesson.👍🤟

Thanks for your support! I always do a demo of the song I'm teaching but because of copyright concerns sometimes that might be in a separate video. The best place to take in my content is my website. If there are multiple videos they're all together on the same page: www.shutupandplay.ca/my-best-friends-girl--rhythm--solo.html

Elliot Easton is super underrated and one of my favorite guitarists. Infusing their New Wave with country and rockabilly (when everyone else was trying to be Eddie Van Halen) was retro and progressive at the same time.

Right up there with a Steey Dan solo !!! Thank You So Much for taking the time to make this tutorial! Mind Blowing Solo !!! SMH !!!

After all the years of playing guitar I am more convinced than ever that good guitar playing is all about creativity, feeling and timing. Elliot Easton’s guitar playing is a perfect example of that. I agree with everyone that he is very underrated and under appreciated.

I've been learning this one lately and it definitely is tough to grasp at first. Has a lot of not very typical patterns and bends. Very kind of harkens back to the older country/western style of playing. Though when you can bust this solo out flawlessly it's bound to turn some heads.

Master teaching. Thank you! Just on note: that "difficult" run shown at 6:06 (when played at normal speed) should REALLY be emphasized that it's a full 6 notes...starting with that quick C# THEN the bend, and not 5 notes starting with a bend - like you're showing many times afterwards. You did play it right at 6:56 and 12:52 though! It IS tricky to land for sure, but that run definitely doesn't start with a bend. I absolutely love your teaching method. Thanks again for sharing!

Excellent analysis thank you. Elliot constructs his solos, not just impro widdling which whilst we all do it is meaningless. You can hum his solos, like Brian May's work. I try to teach this but it takes effort and imagination on the part of students. Many just can't do it. Weird.
