Man, Out on the tiles is such an underrated Zeppelin tune. Out of all the top 10 best Zeppelin riffs or whatever videos, somehow this and The Rover as well don't make it, while this is one of the coolest stuff they have imo. Thanks for the video man, much appreciated!

@@SpedSpedding For as long as I have loved Zeppelin it seems that every riff Page has written always has something unexpected or unique that makes my jaw drop. A perfect example is your lesson on When the Levee Breaks and that FACFAC tuning that allows you to play that power chord on the top two strings where you just wouldn't expect it. When I saw you play that I literally sat there thinking how in the hell did Page ever envision in his brain. Genius.

Check out Moby Dick from 7-17-1977 in Seattle. The opening is Out on the Tiles. If you watch you can clearly see Page slide up to the A# on the 6th fret of the E string before playing the 4th fret A and D strings with his index finger.
@achopage15 ай бұрын
Very cool lesson, just two minor things I noticed. I'm pretty certain the second note of the main riff is an A, rather than an A#. Then on the descent down, even though it does sound more intuitive the way that you teach it with the half step (B-A-B-A-B-C-B-A), Jimmy Page actually plays B-A-B-A-B-C#-B-A. Even more so than in the original recording this is very clearly audible at the 1977 Bonzo Solo/Out on the Tiles live. Cheers!

I've always been drawn to the odd, off-kilter sound of this opening riff. It's very simple and inventive. Very Page-y.

Yeah it is you’re right. It’s like, “Is it straight, is it swing? Is it rock? Roll?! What’s going on mate?” 🤣

Guitar is standard tuning, no leads...gee, all I need now is a drummer like Bonzo! Easy peasy! 🤯

You played the Pinch harmonic and it reminded me of the kinky times. Bit like ala mighty boosh.

Modern player in the same league as James Page I find is Dean Deleo from Stone Temple Pilots... Try Plush... A killer display of great interlocking riffs.... Though the version from about 3 years ago with a new vocalist is utterly spellbinding... Try it... Though you may have heard it.... Their first four albums are sublime

Nice one Mark, I have heard a bit but never gone on a deep dive listening with focus. 🙌🏻 Will put some on over the holidays.

I’m going to have to change the way I play this song after watching this. Seems I was playing it in a more difficult way. Haha Great video as always, Sped! 👍🏻
@SpedSpedding2 жыл бұрын
Oh really? That’s interesting. Which way did you have it? We must be talking the main riff?
@brotherbungle2 жыл бұрын
@@SpedSpedding Yeah. Main riff. When you slide into the C# and then hit the F#. I was using my pinky finger to bar across them. It was a lot sloppier. Never occurred to me to slide into the C#.

Well I've not watched this yet Sped..... Another epic Page riff.... You managed to find the slow blues on his solo album?.. .. Outrider I think it's called,... Happy Christmas dude!! X

Happy Christmas Mark! Yeah I’ve got that album, it’s cool. And yeah it is another epic Page riff. 💪🏻🍿

Thank you. I really enjoy watching you play. Any chance of getting you to play "How Many More Times"? Without all the breaks of course, unless you want to, feel free 🙂

Excellent! Unfortunately "out on the tiles " it's underrated , I've always liked this song a lot .

Yeah a few people have said the same thing, I agree. Maybe the similarities with Black Dog and Good Times give it the cold shoulder. 😂
