I tried it yesterday for the first time and yeah, didn't have a clue what to prioritise. If you have the advisor on max you do get tooltips for everything you click on, and it tells you what each thing does....... the problem is information overload lol
@ZombiGamer16793 жыл бұрын
@@kevinwilson455 I spent a couple hours playing for the first time recently, getting a similar impression and what helps is to ignore like 90% of the things on screen. There is a lot of information overload with the UI clutter, but a lot of it is there for a reason it's just not relevant to you at the moment. Think about what you want to do, you want to build things on your planet so go to that screen and ignore everything else. Look at what you can for that specific screen to orient yourself and familiarize with that one system. Through that you can go at your own pace to see how things connect. Instead of overloading yourself with all the systems, focus on one thing at a time that you currently want to do and as you discover you *need* to find new things then that's when you go looking for them. It helps to set up a game without any AI too like a sandbox, keep it on pause as much as you want just give yourself as much freedom as you can to figure out what you can do
@kevinwilson4553 жыл бұрын
@@ZombiGamer1679 Yeah...... since posting this I have spent a few hours watching more beginner videos, and even been on Reddit checking the difficulty settings to try and tailor the best game. I have settled on Captain difficulty with no scaling and experimented with both the UNoE and the CoM....... I haven't hit 2300 yet but I am just experimenting at this point. Not sure why? but with games like this I often go so far and then realise I have not been optimal, and so make a new game knowing a little more than I did before. Trial and error basically. I think I have a good grasp now after persevering and am enjoying trying out different ethics and civics....... currently doing a CoM run and have got 50 years and it's looking good so far and I think I'll try to hit the end :)

Tbh, when it comes to paradox games this is one of the simpler ones (although that kind of applies to all of the newer titles, hoi4, ck3 etc) mostly because you cant completely fuck yourself in the first 5 minutes of playing (trucebreaks in eu4 anyone?) You can play a whole evening and while you might fall behind, you wont loose outright unless you spawn next to exterminators and no friendlies within reach. On default difficulty you can even fall behind however far you want and still catch up by midgame easily.

I usually prefer going lab-clear slum-lab (or lab-clear slum-temple if spiritualist) asap, before building any orbital stations. Disable the enforcer job (as it does almost nothing at the start of the game) right before the lab finishes (I just disable it at the start though as I always forget to do it before the lab finishes otherwise). The now unemployed enforcer + one worker will move into the lab once it's done, clearing the slum will fill the spot the worker left behind. Then disable 2 farmer slots when the 2nd lab/temple is done to force 2 farmers to move up, most species will have a food surplus at this point which isn't really needed. Wouldn't say I'm particularly good at the game so I could be wrong, but I just think building slots (which typically equate to specialist jobs) are simply way more valuable than a few mining stations or keeping every worker slot filled, and will fill them asap unless doing so would put me into a serious deficit on my primary resources.

I'm a new player (just bought the game on sale less than a week ago) and I've been puzzled about starbase strategies. I've been a little hesitant on building them - especially early on in the game. It would be interesting to hear about the overall strategy of placing them and what to build in them! At 29:30 you build a starbase to protect the initial star cluster from potential attacks at the chokepoint. Isn't it possible that the actual chokepoint is going to be further in the unexplored territory in which case this base will be in the middle of your empire? Or should one build many different points of defense inside one's empire in case an enemy strikes through your territory further ahead? Or is it in the end a not very big deal to have an "extra" starbase near your core system? Thanks for this series! It's just what I've been looking for as it seems to be quite difficult to find guides and videos that aren't outdated - especially one's which are tailored for beginners like myself :)

Ardeni I’ve started making dedicated shipyards, and anchorages. And putting a hydroponics bay, and a deep space black site on each station; I also only put stations in systems with colonized planets, needed rare resources I can’t make, and mega structures. I’ve not yet played multiplayer, and I’m just starting playing on hard w/ normal aggression. So idk how good that strategy actually is
@glenn_r_frank_author4 жыл бұрын
I am pretty new to the game and I understand the idea of getting to and establishing presence at choke points first, but it also seemed odd that you would not move down to the two systems one more system south of where you were building choke point holds. those looked like you could hold more systems at those than the ones you chose. also it looked like there might be another entry to that constellation up to the north east. Wondering if having three science ships to start and search out choke points nearby is too costly or a good way to secure your home sector early.

I also didn't know that science ships could assist research, or what that does. My specific question is this: How do the leader bonuses affect current research? Are you intended to have a couple extra and trade them out for what is optimal, or do all of their bonuses accumulate as long as they have a job? I think I might be missing a detail, somewhere. So far in the only playthrough I've done, I just set them to research whatever matches their quirk but I never trade them out. Thanks for the video

Hey ASpec. I am brand new to Stellaris. Got it with the Federations DLC. I have the 3.0.2 build. I can't believe they don't have a better tutorial system with how complicated this game is. So here I am trying to learn how to play. Obviously you devoted quite a bit of time to 2.7. I like playing along with a youtube guide and duplicating what they do. Its the easiest way for me to learn. I don't see a playthrough for 3.0 yet, just you talking about the patch and a bunch of stand-alone videos talking about different mechanics. So what I am looking for is how much can I learn from 2.7 and have it still make sense in 3.0? I know this is not an easy question to answer but any thoughts would help.

Hi! I'm new here and trying to figure out the massive basics of this interesting game. What does science ship exactly do when it 'assists research' in the end of the video? Does it give bonuses for the each 3 sciences?

It boosts all science output op a planet, the higher the level of the scientist involved, the higher the boost.

When I first started I immediatly found a hive mind civilization. I saw that the diplomatic options had a minus 30 because of hive mind and they had gestalt consciousness. My plan was a peaceful run because I am very new and don't know how to fight, but eventually I declared war on them. I thought it would be impossible to form an alliance because they just want to expand and had a trait that says "bullies weaker empires into submission". I waited until our fleet power was equivalent and launched an attack. I lost one starport/system, and they lost one too. But I lost my economy because I paid for the alloys for the ships with energy credits. On top of that, some pirates from another empire started attacking the opposite frontier of my empire that I was neglecting because I was focusing on the hive mind. I thought I was safe as long as I haven't found another empire frontier. Long story short, I was so eager to go to war I rushed ships, my economy went to shit and got attacked from two sides simoultaniosly. God damn, I guess I'll be more careful next time.

Good sir! Most epic! Question planet deficit Vs empire deficit? Is that even a thing?

A question not quite related to the video: How many mods should be used when playing? I have about 270 hours in stellaris and still don't quite have the hang of it, but the one thing I cannot figure out is the right balance of mods.

I only run a few achievement friendly mods. In my humble opinion less is more

Mods that "upscale" the games, such as adding technologies, more megastructures and more buildings, tend to greatly advantage the player. It can be fun to make a super-empire or challenge x25 crisis with a high tech empire, but the AIs won't be a challenge. Other mods like gulli's planets modifiers, dynamic difficulty or more archeological sites adds more variety to the game without changing the balance radically.

The right balance of mods is whatever you want it to be

I have a question? I can't seem to see the line which connects the clusters. It would be really helpful if I could know that!
