(This is concert/ soprano) *HOW TO TUNE: -Recommend a clip on tuner so you can tune it rly quick -There are built in tuners on some ukuleles -sopranos have same tuning but sometimes they tune the smaller ones up a tone from this -the tuning is: 4th string = G (high sound) [the string closest to the ceiling] 3rd string = C (lower sound) 2nd string = E (medium sound) 1st string = A (highest sound) [the string closest to the floor] -goes from ceiling to floor *HOW TO HOLD IT: -hold the uke w your forearm and press the uke against your body and hold the neck with your other hand for a little support ^^Balance the weight of it between the forearm (arm w the hand strumming) and the hand on the neck -OR you could rest the body of the uke on your lap and hold the neck w your other hand *HOW TO STRUM IT: -Usually strum with your 1st finger (there are techniques tho,, like finger styles and stuff but 1st finger is best for beginners) -usually you strum around where the neck meets the body -practice: do 4 down strokes w 1st finger then 4 up strokes to get used to it (make sure finger isn't getting caught on the strings) -practice 2: 1 down stoke, then 1 up stoke repeatedly -practice 3: (this is a common pattern) down, down, up, down, up, down -smth you should study is different kinds of strumming patterns and different ways of playing it -don't stress *4 SIMPLE CHORDS: *PROGRESSIONS TO PUT ON THOSE CHORDS:

I'm probably late to this, but I bought a "Vorson ABS Concert Ukulele" and it's pretty sturdy, sounds great, and holds it's tuning well. It's only $25-29 on Amazon depending on what graphics you choose. The reason they're so inexpensive is because they're made of plastic, which is actually more durable than the wooden ones. It just doesn't look like wood. I'd definitely recommend upgrading if the one you own doesn't sound great and you don't want to spend a lot of money on a higher end one 🙂

Given me a strum rhythm to practice to make it less boring, taught 4 chords and an easy sequence to put them into to make a song I recognise. And teaches you how to tune. 3 hours later and I already feel like I can play a song I sort of recognise. I can’t wait to show my little girl in the morning. She probably won’t be at all impressed by my new talent. Really handy video though.

Thanks so much for this great video. I am a music teacher in schools and have been asked to give a ukulele class tomorrow! In all my years of playing guitar (over 30), I am ashamed to say I've never even picked one up, so your video has been mega helpful as a starting point. Many thanks!

I bought a harmonica (key of g) and haven't learnt how to use it. A lesson on that to get me started would be awesome!

I did the same exact thing, lol. I used to play the clarinet back in middle school (don't care much for non-rock instruments now) but there's something intimidating about the harmonica. I want to learn how to play it so bad though.

This was wonderful! I've never played the ukelele or guitar or anything. I just tuned our ukelele and gently played the four chords in this video over and over again. Our little kids loved it and my wife said it sounded like her native Hawaii.

Hi Justin Just bought a cute little Uke today at a Cashies store. Mint condition and very cute. Found your great video and have it all tuned up nicely. Sounds great and now learnt my first 4 chords😊👏👏👏👍💕Yah. Heaps of fun. I play guitar also so was puzzled at first by the tuning of the uke, but followed your instructions and all worked out well. You are awesome. Thank you 🙏

dont forget to be realistic - you'll have to put in a bit of work whichever method you decide on for learning to play the uke I've been researching into different systems and discovered an awesome website at Arthurs Uke Blog (check it out on google)

I just got a new ukelele for christmas and I have never played a string instrument at all before. My mom's boyfriend got me some kind of electric tuner to go with it, and I'm pretty sure I have the basic idea down: You select a chord/note you're trying to match, then keep tuning it until the thing on the screen meets in the middle, and you do this for all of the strings. But, whenever I tune it or just move the knobs at all, nothing happens on the screen. I'm sorry if I sound dumb, but again, I've never played ukelele or any kind of string instrument so I'm trying to learn how to tune it from the instructions. Can anyone help me on this?
@wolfme403010 жыл бұрын
Without knowing the exact type of tuner it's hard to give advice. I haven't got a uke yet, but I have been doing a lot of research and saving before I purchase my first uke. There appear to generally be two types of tuner, those with a microphone built in and those that clip on to the uke and tune by vibration. The second seem better for the beginner, plus you can tune up in a noisy area. The only thing I could suggest with your tuner is to read the instructions or check the specific model on the Internet :)
@mikemcmo10 жыл бұрын
Your uppermost string should be tuned to G, then C, then E, then A at the bottom.
