Shane, I love your videos. Awesome. I just wanted to ask a favour. As a lefty, it would be great if guitar teachers referred to the strumming hand as the strumming hand, not the right hand. It would make it easier for us lefties. Cheers.

Can you add a count to your strum pattern? I think this would help in learning the strumming pattern.
@GuitarAtWork
@GuitarAtWork 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that - some songs a count helps for sure. I don't think it'll help in this song as they are 1/16th note strums and you might have more luck just feeling it out while staring at the sheet. Cheers, Shane

I've just discovered your channel while searching for a friend who just received a guitar for Christmas. I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. While there are some great teachers out there in the KZbin world, you in my opinion have to be one of the best. I believe one of your strong attributes is; you understand "how" people learn, and you naturally adapt your style towards that. Thanks to you I'm now tackling some picking.

A big thank you for your kind words. I’m super happy that you will benefit from this channel. I can send you sheets for any of the songs - just ask! Email me directly from my website: www.shanesimpson.com Just hit the contact button. I’ll send sheets right away. I do not collect or otherwise abuse email addresses. I have to figure out how to make the sheets downloadable from the KZbin videos. Best to you, Shane

Guitar At Work I’m having a great time with this. Your approach to teaching the chords and hand movements is so much easier to pick up than any other channels I’ve tried. You’re very laid back and don’t do any showboating, it’s all about the learning process and having fun while doing it. I would love to have some sheet music for a few songs. That will help a lot. I’ll get a list together and try to keep it to a minimum. : ) Thx. 🎸

Yeah, good job on the strumming which is the real key to this one. A tip that may help some slightly more advanced players is this - you'll notice when he plays that Gmaj7 the pinky is kinda dangling over the 3rd string just above fret 4. MY tip is just press it down adding a closed B note. To my ear it tightens up the sound on the top of the chord you wont miss that open G string as you have G held down in the bass. the stacked third B up and over to D up and over to the top F# really is a sweeter sound - which is why a lot of players if they don t need the bottom end will play this chord as a diagonal line from 4th string fret 5 ending on that top F# using a 1 2 3 4 fingering in an angled line on just the top 4 strings. Otherwise - top tute, sure wish I'd had this when I was starting out back in 1976.

As your 4th finger gets stronger and you get better at sending messages to it from your brain - and having it obey!) -you may find the opening chords are a little easier to get to stretch-wise using a 134 fingering, rather than the 123 one demonstrated here. It's a good situation to learn to get that 4th finger involved too as it largely rides piggy-back on the strength of its neighbour finger 3 (ring finger). Give it a go it's only tricky the first 20 or 30 times! After that you'll seriously wonder why you didn't always do it - trust me on this ;-) Happy strumming and chord forming to all.
