Hello Ocillator....just want to say great hack and awesome tracks especially the insanity trillogy as well as the awesome kurzweil 2000 tracks. They inspired me to buy an UltraProteus with the Morpheus card installed. I have made a couple of nice ambient tracks using mostly just the UP sequenced BY MIDI with my Yamaha RS7000. I think that I really need something with some more midi parameter controls and direct modulation ability than the RS7000. Making patches from the front panel on the UP is also not easy. Is the Korg Tactile able to be mapped to the UP/Morpheus easily? I am really just a bit of a noob unfortunately. What sort of parameters can you control real time with the Korg Tactile mapped to the UP/Morpheus? Also, did you make all those awesome patches using the Korg Tactile or a software program like midiquest? I hope its ok to ask. All the best and looking forward to more uploads. cheers, Seb
@_oscillator7 жыл бұрын
Hi Seb, I'm happy to show the power of the Morpheus because it's very underrated synth imho. I also have the plan to get the UltraProteus, looking for some actually. About modulations - Morpheus and UP has 4 modulation channels ABCD on Master menu. each can be assigned to any MIDI realtime controller #00 - #31. Each modulation channel can be assigned as Realtime Modulation Source in Preset Modulation Matrix, up to 10 Realtime modulation patches can be used per Preset. So there are lot of combinations, even more - there are also up to 10 Note-On modulation patches per Preset. Check the user's manual, they have explained everything very detailed, also charts of all modulation souces and destinations. You can easely program any fader or pot of Taktile to be as controller to the ABCD modulation channels of the Morpheus. The possibilities are enormous there :) With one fader of Taktile you can modulate up to 20 modulation destinations of the Morpheus and you have 4 faders... the list of modulation destinations is huge, to long to list here, check the UP user's manual. About my patches - they are programmed using MorphEdit software and played by Taktile as keyboard and modulator, also sequencer of Kurzweil K2000 is working there, but you can use any other sequencer of course, also RS7000. I tried also the MidiQuest software, but it's buggy, showing wrong parameter values and crashes so I suggest the MorphEdit instead. Cheers!
@ph1litmus2627 жыл бұрын
Thankyou VERY much for your detailed reply Oscillator. That is an incredible amount of control you can have at your fingertips with the Korg connecting to the Morpheus. I will have to get a Korg tactile and study the manual on how to MIDI map. So the rule here is that if you had 80 faders you could map them all to separate realtime functions working on the Emu just via MIDI? I will also had a brief look at MorphEdit online today and it looks really good. Do you know if it works with Windows 8.1? Sorry for the Noob questions Oscillator but would you be able to tell me how you are able to make patches in MorphEdit (I would be using a laptop with only USB outs) and connect it to the UP to load the patches. Basically how to do connect them? Thanks for your help so far and if you don't have time to answer my newbie questions thats totally cool as well. Just wanted to mention that the guy I bought my UP off has another one for sale. Great condition and would cost you $380 USD shipped. Just let me know if you are interested and where I can email you the details...or if you would just like me to leave them here. All the best, Sebastian
@_oscillator7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sebastian, I'm using 4 faders of Taktile, each controlling one controller channel (ABCD of the Morpheus). Each channel controls up to 20 modulation patches (10 key-on and 10 realtime). That's for one part of Preset, but each preset has 2 layers. So it's lot of stuff to do :) MorphEdit works on XP, Vista and Win7, all 32-bit and 64-bit, so I guess it should work also on Windows 8. About connection with PC - you need USB-MIDI Adapter. I have E-mu Xmidi 1x1 Tab model, but you can also use any from good brand, like Roland UM-1, Alesis, Yamaha UX-16, M-Audio Uno etc. Just don't use cheap chinese ones for few bucks, they don't work, I tried. Then you can edit patches with MorphEdit and send/receive sysex files with MIDI-OX software, it's freeware and really good. That sounds mouth-watering about your friend's UP, also the price is ok, but the problem is that you're probably live in USA, but I'm from Latvia so shipping cost is high + import charges. That's I'm always trying to get anything from Europe. I will be happy to help you in any way if you have some questions!Best Regards,Normunds
@ph1litmus2627 жыл бұрын
Hi Normunds, Thanks again for helping a clueless noob with your detailed reply and advice. I will try installing MorphEdit and MIDI-OX on the weekend and see if it works with Windows 8. I will also buy a USB-MIDI cable of the type you recommend. A big difference in the price of the cheap Chinese stuff with the models you mention :-) I think I will need a decent MIDI keyboard also. The Korg Taktile looks good ...also the Novation SL MKII .....a good LCD readout of what you have assigned your pots and faders to. Any recommendation there? The Korg kaoss like finger pad looks good for real-time modulation....do you use it much with the Morpheus? I see in your videos that you have a Kurzweil K2000 keyboard. I have the chance to pick up a cheap K2500r Rack and was wondering if you can assign faders and controls to the VAST programming parameters like you can with the UP and Morpheus? With that in mind, if this was possible do you think that it would be a good idea to get a 49key keyboard and split it and be able to play both the K2500 and the UP together in realtime or at least modulate sequences of both at the same time? Is this possible....maybe with a midi thru box? Nice to hear you are from Latvia. We used to have a next door neighbor from Latvia....a really nice lady. I am Australian by the way and bought my UP from a guy in Japan. The seller Hiro was a really nice guy and he might put the price lower on the parcel to avoid import duties for you. He advertises on ebay. The link for the UP is here: www.ebay.com.au/itm/132198333726_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I have his email address if you want to contact him outside of ebay and he might make a discount that way since he wouldn't have to pay final value fees. They are 9.9% these days...crazy!!! Thanks again for your friendly adice. best regards, Sebastian
@_oscillator7 жыл бұрын
Hi Sebastian, sorry for late reply - your last comment appeared just now for some reason, strange. About MIDI keyboards - from USB controllers I have only Taktile, therefore it's difficult to suggest you something else about this. For me the Taktile is exactly what I needed. Yes. I also have the K2000 synth, it's amazing and I used it a lot, my workhorse :) That's a good idea to assign the modulation cources of VAST to faders and knobs of Taktile, I definitely will try as soon I will be back at home, because I'm working abroad for some time in Finland. About using multiple keyboards - yes, it's possible of course. You can use MIDI Thru or Merge devices to configurate any routing of MIDI signals. I'm using merger to mix editor software on PC with Taktile MIDI output to edit and play synths in same time. It is especially handy to work with synth modules because they do not have keyboard as we know. You can also merge few controller keyboards to get more real time controller faders, knobs and buttons. There are many ways to make life more easy :) About UP from Japan - I know this synth on ebay, but it is expensive to order something outside the Europe Union because I have to pay also the import and custom charges, that means to pay a quarter of price more. So I will try to find something closer from EU. Regards mate, all the Best!
