Wow buddy ! , I have been an enthusiasts of aluminum polishing since 2001 when I purchased my 3rd Crotch Rocket (GSX-R).I invested back then as a hobby on a simple polishing kit and did the frame sanding by hand ... in 2003 I totaled my bike in an accident .since then I haven't been around aluminum to have the urge to polish again until 2014. my point is in 2014 I got my CDL , I drive a Pete 379 and since then I have been Chexking out U tube videos on how to DIY on Big Rig polishing ... DAMN BRO , UR VIDEOS ARE THE BEST! in my opinion.. u made me a follower today , I've subscribed and for ur hard work and effort to share ur talent ,passion and knowledge ... I wanna be ur customer ... how do I purchase this starter kit for my Grinder !???? Chris from South TEXAS.

Great vídeo Denis, I would love to find your kit within Europe or buy it on your site, but as you explain, the weight of the compound bar it's not a plus on the option. (Maybe I'll try just to buy your buffs) I got a few Strand Electric theatre lights from the 50'ies that as already been completely blast-cleaned using a high pressure nozzle system with micro glass beads, but now I don't know if it needs first to be sanded with your method or should I go straight to buff and polishing as you do here? Wainting for your reply. I've sent you a message via email but got no answer until now. Cheers from Lisbon (Portugal).

Great video! I have a heavy duty grinder that looks just like what you are using in the video. I like the pads you are displaying however when I go to the website I don't see the same center section. hey Dennis. Great videos as always bud. Just a question about the sanding stages. If you are doing 4 stages starting at 180 grit is there a danger of making the tank weak from removing so much material? Thnx . Much respect for your skills from the otherside of the pond.

Well there's always a risk of compromising aluminum when you sand. As a general rule you can sand ALOT... Been doing tanks for some customers for over 10 years and sand their tanks 1-2 a year and still no problems. Hope this helps

Denis quick question..After I start the first cutting stage after sanding, why is my buffing wheel caked with what appears to be the aluminum I'm polishing? I'm asking cause if I don't use rake as you do on final cutting, it looks to be leaving tiny hair pin scratches you can only see with a light shining at certain angles.
@DCSuperShine
@DCSuperShine 7 жыл бұрын
+P Davidson many factors come into play, speed your polishing at, compounds and pads you're using. You need to remember tho that aluminum is a soft metal and getting every single line out is nearly impossible. You'll drive yourself crazy trying :)

my tanks are not that bad so what grit sand paper be good to start with or should I use a steel wool pad and when doing the side is it best to sand with the grain or does it matter? nice video and tank looks great
@DCSuperShine
@DCSuperShine 7 жыл бұрын
+Jake Brake you can sand any way you want, using the proper grits and making sure the prior grit sander marks are out is whats important. If it's not bad I usually go 320, 400 and 600 Hope this helps

What's been your experience using this process on steel? I have some raw steel never had anything on it that I want to buff with one of these grinders. Anything that you need to do different?
@DCSuperShine
@DCSuperShine 6 жыл бұрын
Just a lot more sanding, I’ve polished smaller steel pieces in the past. Same process really it’s just s harder metal so requires more time on all the steps. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching!
@c1osure
@c1osure 6 жыл бұрын
Sure does thanks. I might have to start with a coarse grit if I use a random orbital sander, the problem there being it would require more sanding steps and time. But the steel has to be a very smooth mirror finish as I will be chrome plating after.

Hey man awesome work can I ask and different rpm’s for different wheels? Or different rpm’s for sanding? Cheers man great video
@DCSuperShine
@DCSuperShine 2 жыл бұрын
All wheels have “recommended “ speeds… depends on the manufacturer. Most are 3200-3500rpms. I cut using a 6000 rpm there is a risk of pads coming apart when doing this. I use quality pads and haven’t had one blow up on me in years. Sanding is pedal to the medal so usually max speed whether I’m using an orbital or my variable speed polisher. Hope this helps

How do you know to use the rouge
@DCSuperShine
@DCSuperShine 6 жыл бұрын
I use Menzerna so you don’t need a lot of compound when applying so I use very little more often every 2-3 passes I add compound. Hope that answers your question.

would you recommend a variable speed for beginners or a 6000 rpm should be ok??
@DCSuperShine
@DCSuperShine 7 жыл бұрын
+Carlos Navarro if your handy with power tools you'll be fine with the 6000 if not using the 3000/3500 is recommended at first. But I sell tons of kits to people that have never polished and they go with the 6000 :)

why not use a 9 inch orbital polisher from Dewalt used to polish paint? Half the weight of that 9 inch grinder made to cut through steel not soft metal.

I do use a 3500 for smaller areas or tight spots… a 6000 gets the job done in half the time and you’ll get a better shine shine! Lvl up and use big boy tools 😬 you’ll never go back to a 3000-3500 polisher!! Thanks for watching.
