I would suggest trying the cordless dewalt to its variable speed which is so freaking helpful in a lot of ways. I have seen bikes that the owner did this mirror finish work on the engine side cases. This was a popular customize job on the old XS 650 Yamaha engines. There was a problem when making the engine look so good…. it really makes an older motorcycle look like crap. It’s like having a filthy car with two brand new chrome bumpers on it without washing the car. Or just washing the windows on a muddy car… you have to be sure to Put the effort into the whole vehicle

Flitz sells 2 and 3 inch diameter buff balls you put on a fast drill, corded or cordless. They don't get into the fins the way this thing does, but they do get into any small nook and cranny, and they have no exposed metal at the tip or anywhere. The small ones also are mounted on a longer metal rod. So you can reach pretty deep into the bike easily, and they do a fantastic job polishing. They're washable so at least with Flitz own polish you can reuse them many times. No easier way I know of to polish spokes, either, if you have old school spoked wheels (they also have larger diameter options for more generic polishing of larger surfaces). The very low profile of this design is nice though, for doing things like engine fins.

Do you think rivets would hold up to the vibrations?
@SweetScoots3 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, we tried rivets but with the constant vibration the plastic became loose and it was more of a pain to replace the plastic...the bolt and nut held and never became loose and it was very quick to replace the plastic...thanks for asking. Mad Mike

@@SweetScoots that's what I was assuming, rivets seemed like a great idea for a couple seconds lol, thanks for the response I'll definitely be using your method in the future!

Question: Is there a clear coat on stock Rocker Boxes or are they just good chrome?
@SweetScoots Жыл бұрын
I do not believe that there is clear coat on the chrome, but a quick way to find out is to take this amzn.to/3uzQ2Ip and rub an area with a microfiber towel and if it turns color at all, you will know that it is not clear coated. Hope this helps, thanks for watching, have a great week. mad Mike

@@SweetScoots Thanks Mad Mike, My 96er Rock boxes look so nice I was thinking they must be clear-coated. I was looking at a 103 a few months back, and was thinking they looked yellowish, like the top end had overheated and yellowed the clear-coating. -Wicklow Kelly - Ireland.
