Good to see people porting i been porting heads for many years started in 97 owned a couple flow benches I really learned how to port after learning how to use a flow bench there is so much the human mind and eye can't wrap around its not just smooth or bigger its truly about volume and velocity with a great valve job to match the radius to promote flow,chamber,squish,shrouding, exc,exc,exc there is so much great video on

Good work you’re getting there! The most flow improvement comes from the bowl cut percentage and blend. Good job it’s good to see people porting! JD

Cartridge rolls at Harbor Freight, tapered and straight in a variety pack. The mandrels that come with said variety pack are mostly too short.

SAME LOL. I have 862 heads on it now that I can play with for practice porting. Otherwise just going to send a set of junkyard 243 heads to texas speed and pay for the works. Going from test and tune T4 ebay turbo with 2" runners on a 5.3 to T6 2.25" runners and something that flows some good CFM. Running a sloppy stage 2 cam and I think PAC 1218 springs? lol.

Better to have metal around the guides it helps draw heat away from it. Hardly any difference in flow anyways

@@JM8686 holy hell. I bet you're doin a hell of a lot nicer job than I am. Can't believe how much you can take out of these. I'm leaving them rough. I have a theory on the polishing that alligns with some fluid dynamics theory. Long story short, it doesn't net a gain in power that justifies the effort. I'm not spending more than 8hrs a side and I should be knockin around 500 motor with my cam combo.

I've heard grinding down the exhaust side decreases the vacuum flow and will actually decrease compression.

@jasonhlavac817
@jasonhlavac817 2 ай бұрын
That's not a thing. Maybe you heard "back pressure", which isn't really changed much by porting. but if you don't have much porting experience' just don't remove a lot on the exhaust. Smooth them up and polish them to a mirror finish, if you'd like (after a certain point it's just overkill but won't hurt anything. Not the same for intakes, an 80 grit finish is about as fine as you should go except maybe on a direct injection head).

No you're not supposed to portit to the point of seeing a hole in your rockerarms stud mounting point. It causes Air flow problems
