You have taught me so much with your videos, I am now creating some projects that I am very happy with due to some of your technics. I have only been cnc carving for about 2 months, but I am using the tiny little 3018 cnc.

Great video on bit selection and on finishing the project. Sometimes you make it look to easy, lol . Keep up the good work.
@PawPawsWorkShop6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. The bit selection has been a long standing problem on the Inventables forum. It was time to address it.

Very nice paw paw...nice painting tecgnique...i dont think that would work on unfinished porous wood though...the paint would absorb into the wood and grain and you wouldnt be able to wipe off
@PawPawsWorkShop6 жыл бұрын
der ddd . You are right. That is why it is imperative to seal the wood first.

Thank you so much for this helpful video!! Awesome work!! What type of paint do you use for the filler. It is an acrylic, but will it last outdoors (does it have any UV protection). Is your shellac water based or oil based (and same with the paint filler)? Thanks!
@PawPawsWorkShop Жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. This is acrylic paint and it is not meant to be outside. For outdoor projects you definitely need to use UV protection paints, stains and sealers.

Have you tried sifting your sawdust thru a tea or flour sifter? Great videos!!!

Skip Evans . Yes, thank you. After I did the video I went to the dollar store and picked up one.

Thank you for making a video on this. I have been trying several different ways to paint a already painted or stained surface and I will be trying this. Do you think this would work if I were to put Shellac or polyurethane over a painted surface as protection and then painted the text as you did in this video? Thanks!
@simplygreen45674 жыл бұрын
Great video! Quick question, when you enter you own bit and make it really small ,easel automatically makes it carve really slow because it doesn't want to break the bit. However in reality you are using a strong V-bit . My question is: do you manually enter you feed rate ? If so what do you set it at? Thank you!
@PawPawsWorkShop4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can change the feed rate. Look at the top right of the screen and you will see a box that says "cut settings" Select that box and you will see a drop down box with the default settings and next to that you can select "custom settings". You can change the settings there. Thank you very much for your question.

I would definitely do prefinishing of most V carve inlays.
@PawPawsWorkShop4 жыл бұрын
Yes, by prefinishing it makes it where the paint when flooded in the art work just wipes off the surface. Easy and fast technique. Thank you very much.
@mathias65763 жыл бұрын
As always your videos are helpful. What are you thoughts on a matte finish with same steps, and can I use a matte polyacrylic? Thanks
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely, you can use the matte polyacrylic
@robertstrickland19793 жыл бұрын
Do you put shellac back on the carved out areas after you carve them out. It looks as if you put the paint right into the carved areas. wouldn't that allow the paint soak into the cut out ares
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
Yes, seal, carve, seal, paint, seal again.
@joeyoung97433 жыл бұрын
Can you do the same method of painting on wood that hasn’t been sealed or stained? I tried and the paint soaked right into the wood. I did use acrylic paint.
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
No, I do not think this will work on wood
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
You must seal the wood completely. If you want to paint the wood a different color then you will be sealing the wood with paint. After carving you can add color to the engraving
@dwayneharms46312 жыл бұрын
I see that you changed the bit to .015. But what bit did you actually use?
@jamesdunn11123 жыл бұрын
Once you painted the carving did you spray SHallac on it to seal in the paint?
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
I usually use spray can clear coat for the final protection

do you do this prefinish on all the signs you make, in other on all the different woods that you use
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
Yes, If I plan on painting them I will seal the wood, carve, then seal again and finally paint. Once the paint is dry, I will seal again.

What CNC would you recommend for new users (beginners)
@PawPawsWorkShop Жыл бұрын
That can be a very difficult question. Space and budget are two big questions. I would suggest the largest machine for the space that you have considering the budget that you want to spend. Experience plays into this also. Try to find a cnc machine with no belts and no wheels. These will have less maintenance. I started with the xcarve by Inventables. Yes it has belts and wheels. Easel is an excellent entry level software and it has the cad and cam built in. No need for a separate software to act as a sender to the cnc machine. If you have specific questions I’ll try and answer them
@dbrimmage237 Жыл бұрын
@@PawPawsWorkShop very cleverly constructed and politically correct response.😁😁 However, I would still like your personal preference for a inexpensive desktop cnc machine, i.e. Foxalien, Ginmitsu, etc. Any at or under $1000.00

just wanted to ask a question, What is the paint that wipes right off, i realize it is waterbase but is there some better than others
@PawPawsWorkShop3 жыл бұрын
I just use acrylic paint from the hobby stores such as Hobby Lobby and Walmart. The key is to have the wood sealed completely.
@rogert53656 жыл бұрын
Great Video! I will have to give this a try! One quick question if you don't mind. I am trying to make a toy chest for my nephew with some spiderman designs on it. I noticed you had some Avengers stuff in your work area. Did you use the image trace function in easel to get those into easel or did you have them as SVG files and then loaded them into Easel? Thanks!
@PawPawsWorkShop6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your compliment. I found the artwork on Google images. I used Inkscape to convert the JPEG file to an SVG file. I never carved the Avengers logo, however, I did carve an Ironman logo. I was planning to do the Fantastic Four but it was not very popular video. I think the Spiderman design will look great and your nephew will love it.

May be just a tiny bit, but not an amount that takes away the simple process.
