Cheers for this, I been tryin to find out about "how to paint a whole car" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Banayce Wordless Blueprint - (search on google ) ? It is a great one off product for discovering how to master car body work and spraying techniques without the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my partner got great success with it.

I first use regilar body filler and get the panel near straight, then I use glaze putty over a larger area ontop and it turns out perfect every single time. It makes things easy I love glaze putty

Pretty solid basic info for doing a complete really. Ive done restos, and I work professional collision, so things differ when you have blend panels and such. But I'd reccomend for some DIY. Absolutely! Great basic information here and things you should adhere to as a rule of thumb.

What kind of sander should I get for my paint job?
@CarAddictGarage2 жыл бұрын
3M makes good DA sanders, but there are probably cheaper DA sanders that will work fine. ere is a link to the 3M DA sander amzn.to/3pknUIS. I have also used chicago pneumatic and they worked well also.

After all that prep, right before primer must we wash the car panel or just wipe with something?
@CarAddictGarage7 жыл бұрын
If there is exposed metal and body filler, then I would just wipe it good with a cleaner before priming. Once primed and blocked, then I would wash it.

@Themrleonkennedy18 жыл бұрын
Okay so use 180 grant on the entire car, than refinish sides or feather edging by using 220 on a DA, and final sand with 400-600 grit on Da with inner face pad to prevent sand marks? I'm doing all the sanding so I can take car to the shop to be reprimed and painted. This shouldn't be to hard. Thanks
@CarAddictGarage8 жыл бұрын
If there are no problems with the paint, peeling, too many mils, etc, then you can skip the 180 and 220 and just final sand with 400 to 600. Then they can apply primer sealer and paint. Are there any dents you need to repair?
@Themrleonkennedy18 жыл бұрын
+DIY Auto Body and Paint The car was repainted before, not a good job was done because there some cracking on driver door and I can see cracks from original paint under new paint at hood. I'm thinking of doing 220 grit and final sanding with 500 grit, what would you do? Thanks for the reply that was mighty white of you to do😊

hi love the video i wanna know can i use filler to get rid of deep scratchs as ive got subaru impreza gf8 wagon thats got all deep scratchs on?
@frankhardy1236 жыл бұрын
Don't use filler on scratches, especially deep ones. The repair will likely sink and be noticeable six months later. Always feather out a scratch with DA and prep a blend panel or two next to it (depending upon where the damage is) then prime, block sand, then respray.

I have an 89 Mustang LX. I bought it back in October and being 17 it's my daily drive. I know I shouldn't but I need it until I can afford another car. it has a little rust hear and there a dent and some flaking paint on the rear wheel well. How should I go about fixing those spots that have imperfections? And how long would it take
@CarAddictGarage7 жыл бұрын
Hey Derrick, there are a lot of variables depending on the condition. Is the rust just surface rust on top of the panel or is it rusted through the panel?
@DapperD9427 жыл бұрын

I have a truck and the clear coat is flaking off because of the sun do I need to sand off all the clear coat? if I don't and the truck is repainted won't it keep peeling off?
@CarAddictGarage8 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you can do a partial strip. Good new is that if it's flaking off, then it's real thin and should not take long. I made a video about that. It's the first video on this lesson... www.collisionblast.com/paint-defects/ Thanks for watching and I hope this helps.

Is the primer process necessary after all of this sanding?
@CarAddictGarage7 жыл бұрын
Only on areas where you did body work or have imperfections. If the panel does not have any damage that was repaired then you should not have to prime and block sand.
@filesshared94317 жыл бұрын
The Garage Butler thanks for the reply. What about areas that has bare metal showing? Does bare metal require primer or will finishing off at 800 grit suffice?
@CarAddictGarage7 жыл бұрын
No, any bare metal will need self etch primer or epoxy primer applied before top coating.
@frankhardy1236 жыл бұрын
Always prime on top of filler. It will help remove any imperfections in the sanding. It will also help to get the correct colour when painting. Donnie is correct about the etch, it must go on bare metal to remove corrosion and allow the primer to adhere. Everything else Eastwoods does is nonsense, some of the worst 'Professional' body repairs on youtube.
