As far as interchanging the parts on the CV joints. Why can you only exchange or move around the cages and stars on midboard hubs?

What Tool was used on the air di grinder for clearance of c.v. boot small end? What is the best greese for 930 that is broke in? 3/8x24 torque specs? THANKYOU in advance.. Awesome video

Dave Imer we use a 1” barrel sander. You can order the arbor and barrels online with a quick Google search. The attachment is fairly inexpensive and comes in handle for many jobs. As for grease, everyone has what they swear by. But for most prerunners and play cars a 50/50 mix of Belray and Swepco Moly101 has shown good results. 3/8-24 bolt torque range from 37ft-lbs(grade 8 plain) to 58ft-lbs (grade 9 plated). Would need a bit more info for your exact spec. You can email info@agm-products.com with any other questions or get more detailed answers.

Did you install the cv's backward?

I've seen another video and on the outer housing they have the groove on the outside. Does it matter which side the groove is on?
@AGM-Products3 жыл бұрын
In this application it does not matter. In other applications where the outer housing has a step cut in it to fit the drive flanges, orientation is critical, but not here. Here they are more of a reference than anything else.

I hear timing is big when re installing the CV on the axle. Is that the case?
@AGM-Products4 жыл бұрын
vidal trevino we’ve been told the same thing. So we tested the idea by clocking the CV joints in different locations in relation to each other and found that until you got to extreme axle angles there was no noticeable hop or binding when the installed assembly was rotated. At the extreme axle angles we saw a small hop/hard spot in the rotation. But this also occurred to a lesser extend when the CV’s were clocked/timed as well. Our conclusion, taking the time to clock the joints does not add much to the job so it’s not a bad practice to perform. But if you happen forget, the results do not appear to be disastrous.

What exactly weakens and how does that work?

The Schaeffler engineers explained it to us simple folk comparing an axle to a tube of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls. The axle starts life with no load, and then is loaded in a particular direction (by being installed on a vehicle and then ran), this stress stretches/transforms the material. It’s works great when loading it/twisting it the same direction that it was originally loaded as it is supported. But if you apply the same multitude of huge loads the opposite direction the strength is significantly reduced and the part opens just like a tube of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls will pop open (with little effort) when twisting them from the ends. Ok, now I’m hungry. If you want to take a deep dive check out yield strength, tensile strength, material strain/stress, plastic deformation, papers on molecular structure and material grain changes under load and a host of other fancy terms above our pay grade. But please know we experienced this type of failure first hand long before they showed us the data. They just gave use the exact figures for our application.
