The Jeffry Method is an incredibly effective way of starting a young horse! For years now it has been an important part of my training programs. Horses that are prepared in this way tend to accept their riders much better and be more accepting of the process. Originally this method was used in Australia to start young horses in a single day. Although it is possible to start a horse in 1 day I find that it can be mentally overwhelming to push the horse into that amount of training on its first encounter with being ridden. Hope you enjoyed the video!

I sent for this book in the 80's because I had a few horses that had never had a halter on them and with the Jeffery method I was on them in a half an hour, compared to the old snubbin post method it was a revelation, I have always thought the sliding loop on the lariat was the part that gentled them down so fast, bet it would work really well on a mustang

OMG! I don't even a horse yet I'm still watching all these videos. It's great all the things you do and how much they trust you. I'd love to have a horse one day but I live in the city. Sniff! Still, it's so relaxing and mindful seeing how you bond with them. Great videos!

DONT try this with a scared or unsocialised horse. I made it on for about 2 seconds before I was bucked off. I've learned my lesson, you should only try this step with a horse that already has some connection or trust with you. Preferably not a rescue horse that has been mistreated by humans before. It should already have been desensitised by plastic bags, rope on its back, etc. Read the horse's language carefully. Whites of the eyes showing, head very high and ears pinned back are all very bad signs, as well as shuffling feet

I love you videos so much! Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I have a mustang who I got a year ago. And it’s been a slow process. He has been saddled and ridden a number of times but he is very fearful of the saddle pad and saddle. I don’t know how to help him relax. I have tried EVERYTHING. Right now I am tossing the saddle pad around, rubbing him with it, giving lots of treats, lunging him with the saddle pad on and letting it fall to the ground… nothing works. Just yesterday I was lunging him with the saddle pad and he started to kick out over and over again. He just hates everything about he saddle. I don’t want to ride him and progress in that while he’s in this mental place. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you!

@@HorsePerfect Wow! That's really cool that you actually take the time to respond to people's questions like you are for Rosemary. We can't all have a trainer, but we still love our horses and want to do the best we can with them. You seem to be a great resource who genuinely cares about helping horses and their people.

After doing this with many horses I’ve never had them do that. It could happen but if you do it right then it shouldn’t!

So what would you do if the horse was able to get away from you and then freaked out and started bucking or scooting around too fast and out of control? Would you bail and try to get off or would you try to ride it out?
@HorsePerfect
@HorsePerfect Жыл бұрын
Since this hasn’t happened to me yet I can’t tell you for sure, however at this stage I absolutely would try to get off immediately because I haven’t properly taught the horse to respond to anything from the rider yet.

What do you think about the equitation/horsemanship from the people from paraguay?
@HorsePerfect
@HorsePerfect Жыл бұрын
In general its ok. I know a lot of people that take good care of their horses here. There are also a lot of mistreated and malnourished horses as well as slaughter pens where horses are made into dog food. There is a lot of missing knowledge that would help people here to treat their horses better and the equipment used could be changed for the sake of the horses.
