This was a great rundown for ultras, thanks! I'm getting ready to step up to 50 miles, and while that's scary to me, hearing you talk about 100k so confidently definitely makes it seem more doable!

@@marathonhandbook Life got busy and I had some health issues. I decided this was the year for that 50 miler... but none were ringing my bell, so I signed up for a 100k instead. 😂 🫣 I'm back for a refresher.

Thank you for the tips. This is really helpful! I will be running my first 100km on July 27-28. I was thinking of using my Endorphin Pro 3 but I'm having second thoughts. Do you think it's okay to use carbon plated shoes even if you're running slow for long period of time? Thank you in advance🙂

here you go - (from Wikipedia) Energy gels are edible carbohydrate gels that provide energy for exercise and promote recovery, commonly used in endurance events such as running, cycling, and triathlons. Energy gels are also referred to as endurance gels, sports gels, nutritional gels, and carbohydrate gels. Energy gels are packaged in small, single-serve plastic packets. Each packet has a strip with a small notch at the top that can be peeled off to reveal an opening through which the gel can be consumed. One handed operation is often adopted by users to facilitate continuous exercise performance. The size content of energy gels is commonly around 1.2 oz (32g), with a range from 1 oz to 1.5 oz packets. The portable packaging is designed to facilitate uninterrupted training or performance conditions. Common ingredients include water, maltodextrin, fructose, and various micronutrients, preservatives, and flavor compounds or caffeine.
