As an Argentinian I was raised enjoying Yerba Mate every single day. I want to share how to prepare it like a local so next time you travel to South America or meet people from there, you know it! ;-)

The passion for the drink people from your region seem to share, that having a hot thermos to top it off so you can have more is considered the standard, is just such an absolutely beautifully unique cultural difference! Love your videos and your genuine enthusiasm to share something from where youre from with this quality of a video is a serious treat(: god bless from the USA!

Definitely love mate 🧉 and sharing here with the world means a lot :) It's all about sharing and having a god company for whatever you need to do during the day, I couldn't find that in coffee or tea, so I'm always excited when it's mate time. Thanks a lot again for your nice comments and let me know if I can help you in anything with your mate journey! Have a great weekend 🙏

Thank you so much! Yes definitely give it a go, if you want to get "Yerba" in London there's a place called "Casa Argentina" near Wimbledon Park, otherwise they take orders online. Amazon works too but it's a bit more expensive. Keep up the great work on your channel too!

that's so cool Tony! 🇻🇳 🧉 You can definitely make it using cold water, ice and some pieces of lemon or any other fruit if you like it. That's how they normally drink it in Paraguay, it's called "tereré". 😀

So do you keep adding water to the same leaves all day or make a new batch everytime?
@AleSalvino
@AleSalvino Жыл бұрын
Not all day, just as much as it takes you to finish one thermos (0.5 litres). I normally change the Yerba after I finish 0.5 / 1 litres because it "washes" out, you can see the Yerba is floating so that means it's not fresh anymore, the flavour is almost gone, that's also a good indication that it's time to change it. ✌🏼

What is the taste of mate? Like a bitter green tea?
@AleSalvino
@AleSalvino Жыл бұрын
Mate is more bitter, more pronounced and bolder than green tea or other herbal teas. I also find most yerba mate to be more or less tobaccoey and earthy than most of the teas. It's amazing, you should try it! :)
@functorsandthecity
@functorsandthecity Жыл бұрын
Yerba is incredibly variable from brand to brand, even in the same "category". There are major categories though: Argentine con palo (sometimes very suave like Union, sometimes very strong like La Tranquera), Argentine despalada, Uruguayan, chimarrao (Brazilian), terere (Paraguayan, consumed ice cold). Each of these is a whole category, maybe more dissimilar from each other than white/red wine. Generally speaking mate is very bitter. Yerbas that have bits of stems (palo) will be less bitter and easier on the stomach (if you have like acidity issues) than yerbas without stem. But you could write reviews like wine reviews on specific brands. It's a very rich universe -- much much richer than coffee in terms of how much there is to explore flavor-wise.
