I think it's very important to keep records like you do. That way nothing gets overlooked. And to make sure your animals are healthy and are suitable to breed! Shows you care for them and that they aren't only a profit margin for your farm!

It just helps me stay a lot more organized and attentive to them. We all know I can get a little frantic and forgetful and we really do want to make sure they're all as healthy as they can be with us :) Definitely a part of the Farmily :)

What age, weight, height, etc do you look for ND’s to meet before breeding?
@MulberryBranchFarm3 жыл бұрын
Great Question! We look at our doelings when they turn 7 months old at earliest. They must be at least 35-40 lbs. we don’t pay attention so much to their height measurement but more so how wide they are from thurl to thurl. I measure this by placing my index finger on one thurl and reaching my thumb over the rump to the opposite thurl. If I can touch each without stretching my hand I hold off on breeding them until I’m really stretching the area between my index finger and thumb to touch both thurls. This measurement is important because it tells me if she’s wide enough in her pelvis to pass a normal sized kid without intervention. I hope that makes sense and you’ve given me an idea for a First Timer Assessment. I can demonstrate this way of measuring as well 😊
