Great advice! Here's a recap: Keep a balance: 1. Try to sleep early, if you can, before 11. 2. If you can't sleep, just relax, try to feel the body, especially the weight of the body. 3. Do physical exercise, aerobic exercise, especially if you sit too much. 4. Do something different every day, even just changing roads while going to work. 5. In the weekends, go to the mountains, hike, or do something completely different from what you do during the week. 6. Most important is your MINDSET: let go of the past and be with the present. 7. Do a little bit of work every day, divide and don't wait until the last moment. (Most of the time, we don't do what we're supposed to do and when the deadline comes, we get burnt out.) 8. Meditation is very important, meditate every day on breathing, sound, or mental recitation, anything that helps to keep you present and balanced. In short: LET GO OF THE PAST, LET GO OF THE FUTURE, BE IN THE PRESENT.

Yes, sleep early and exercise. Please allow me to interrupt. I do research on how Buddhism disappeared in Bihar. I realized it never disappeared from Bihar. Buddhists simply failed to research Indian Buddhism. They looked at Buddhism through the sphere of their own cultures searching for only the Buddha. Buddha had a myriad of names in different villages according to his teachings there. Example. His favorite teaching was 'Lust and desire causes pain. Remove lust and desire, and pain is removed'. Translated into Bihari (where the Buddha story took place) it is DHUKH HARAN meaning to remove dukha. Three dozen villages pray to DUKH HARAN Baba. Its clear that DUKH HARAN Baba is none other than the Buddha. Problem is Buddhists are searching only for the Buddha. In the real Vaishali the Buddha begged for alms. The locals there pray to 'BHIKHAINI' Baba (Beggar Baba). Bhikhaini was mispronounced by Buddhists as Bhikshu. Who is BHIKHAINI Baba. The Buddha no doubt. But people are searching for a man called Buddha. In the real Vaishali, in Beluha the Buddha suffered a sickness and felt he had grown old. The locals pray to 'BURHA' Baba (Old Baba). Who is BURHA Baba. The Buddha no doubt. In the real Vaishali the Lichavies pressurized Buddha not to die. They trailed him to Bandagawan pressurizing him not to die. To put pressure in Hindi is DABESHWAR. Three dozen villages around the stupa where Buddha gave the Lichavies his patra, the villagers pray to Baba 'DABESHWAR NATH' meaning the man who won the pressurizing game. It was the the Buddha no doubt as he gave the Lichavies his patra and succeded in sending them back. But Buddhists are searching for the Buddha. In Pidhauli (Vaishali) the local deity is Bardiha Baba. Bardiha means the Baba who didn't allow us to stay where he was staying. Bardiha Baba is the Buddha no doubt because he didn't allow the crowd of Lichavies to stay with him in Bandagama. Forgive me for commenting out of the topic. I just wanted to impart this information to Buddhists.

Some things I've done to break up my exhausted or stuck mindset: Long slow deep breaths for 5-15 minutes. Stretching, gently shaking out arms and hands. Observing the tingling energy and groundedness in the body. Chant Four Immeasurables or Green Tara or Om or "One" for 10-15 minutes with hand on heart to feel the vibrations in the chest. Read my meditation journal and find blockages I worked through. Or occasions I helped others. Can turn an experience into gratitude for the growth it brought. Or can become a compassion for myself or others. Listen to nature sounds while meditating. Like birdsong or whales. Walk or jog in a different park or street. Eat something different from usual like grapefuit (something bitter) or garlic pita chips (savory crunchy texture). Drink fresh squeezed lemon in water.

I do not understand. Wouldn't trying to become aware of what is a large cost of energy, then afterwards a solution for that, whether its a mindset shift or an actual workload change be more effective advice? I think that present mindedness is required for that and emplying self care and breaking up of monotony can bring a great deal of awareness of whats going on. (And also just be refreshing ofcourse. I love walks, even if just around the block.) Idk, i guess I'm just worried for the person that has the idea they are somehow fucking up, while in reality there is nothing they can really do themselves to change the situation of the load and actually need to open up the discussion. Also for me, comforting regularity reduces stress and is restorative by a lot. so if you're anything like me it would be not a good idea to break everything up and change things around. But if you lost your routines try build some good ones. Even very small ones. That stuff compounds over time even with minimal effort. Don't try too hard. But i definitely agree with the whole sleep stuff. Not even able to argue anything there. Just on point.

I think awareness grows naturally as one deliberately exposes oneself to variety of experience, like you have mentioned. I also think that growth in awareness is not only momentary and specific to the routine-breaking experience which relieves from the burdening workload while away from it but also carries over to the work itself, by which one can then better recognize its impact, structure and flexibility. All it takes is the realization of self-agency in one's life, and the ever present opportunity to engage deliberately. Then one can apply it to whatever minutes, seconds or hours one is away from work for greater stability and freedom.
