GoHerping hey Alex I have a hog nose snake and he’s shed his skin but a eye cap is left on. I’m really nervous that he is going to get eye damage. I hate to say it but the eye cap has been on there for about 3 weeks now. I’ve tried bathing him in like warm water and then trying to get it off with a Cotten bud but it just won’t come off. I don’t want to restrain him gently by the neck and then try to get it off because of stress and because he’s so small. I’m really lost. Need help fast. Thankyou.

The way I got my stuck shed off was spraying her with water every 10 minutes for about 40 minutes, then I would peel it off. That's the best method that's worked for me so far! Since then, I've replaced her aspen with coconut substrate and I leave a blanket on 3/4 of her glass enclosure most of the time.

An easy way to bump up the humidity is to add a second water dish on the hot side of the enclosure. This allows the increase without creating the damp spots you can get using a spray bottle.

My snake went into shed tonight! He’s half way done, hopefully he’ll get the lower half done by tomorrow but if not I was gonna use a bath and a warm damp wash cloth afterwards. It did not shed in one piece as I would hoped but now I understand to keep a towel covering 3/4 of the screen and a spritz of water every other day is gonna help him so much

I love your videos... one of the better reptile youtubers. However, I am surprised your didn't mention a humidity box as an option considering it is perhaps the most simple way without having to change anything. In regards to aspen and ball pythons, you are very right that it's very dry and is not ideal for a ball python enclosure. But in my experience I have found that aspen WITH a humidity box is actually the ideal setup for ball pythons. They live in very dry surroundings in Africa but often enter termite mounds which are very humid. So, in my opinion, having aspen bedding might help the ball python feel more at home because just like in the wild if they are feeling dry they will go into a termite mound (in this case a humidity box). For my ball pythons they seem to thrive better with ~60-65% humidity at all times, including when in blue, and allowing them to use the humidity box as needed just like they would with termite mounds in the wild. Nevertheless, all the tips in this video are just as valid and effective, just wanted to add the humidity box on top of it. :D Thanks

I've had my ball python for almost a year at this point. When I got him from a young girl who didn't want him anymore, he was so tiny that I assumed he was a baby. He had stuck shed when I got him and then didn't have problems again until now. He's been under weight the whole time and I'm trying to work on that. He was close to death when I got him. I am worried that I'll stress him out to much if I soak him again so soon. I was able to get all the shed off, other than his upper neck and head... I'm unsure of what to do at this point. The ball python I had years ago was much older and I never had these problems. This is a new to me even though this isn't my first ball python. Help! I don't want to stress my poor Bo out to badly, but I want to help him. I believe he's also about to shed again. His eyes are blue. I'm not sure if they are stuck caps or not. I've never had these problems before & I'm worried for him. 😢

Steve Gee manufacturers do care, it’s how they make money, but the don’t bother because even if they were to take it down on there brand, the next brand will just get all the costumers, and I doubt that the government cares to ban crushed walnut, so it’s not the manufacturers, it’s the government, and why would they? It makes little sense for the government to care about a topic like this. So then the buyers are the problem, the more people buy, the more crushed walnut there are.

Terrowin i think this could possibly work. You can possibly brain the mouse, which is when you cut open the mouse scalp, get the brain matter and rub it on the mouse's nose or put canned tuna or salmon juice on the mouse. Plus, you can thaw out the mouse in luke warm water until its completly thawed out(this can usually work for ball pythons, reticulated pyrhons, burmese python ect..),basiclly, anything with heat pits which are the little holes on their snouts.

My snake had her 1st full shed yesterday. The humidity has been at a constant 60-63 due to the rise in humidity from the spring weather. Otherwise I struggle with it staying constant because leaving the fogger on constantly overworks the machine and causes the humidity to go too high. If anyone knows a solution for this, let me know. Also, she's in a 40 gal. tank with a mesh lid and overhead light and heat pad under her hide.
@Surrender176 жыл бұрын
Steve Gee thanks. I thought about getting that hygrometer thing that helps with the heat and humidity that turns on when the humidity level you input drops. I do have a timer that goes off every other half hour, but the humity drops fast during the time it's off.
@Surrender176 жыл бұрын
Steve Gee That sounds exactly right. In addition to the panels, I might try an led light instead, since she already has a heat source. I know they don't need overhead heating, but I always thought it helped produce humidity by evaporating the water in her dish and gave her the option of staying warm outside of her hide. I'll try the panels first, though. Thank you. You've been very helpful.
