Really great video...I run a painting and decorating business in the UK and airless spraying is part of the setup, mainly used on new build work and commercial refurbs..a Graco 495 and we tend to follow the American style of doors & trim, then walls and lastly ceilings, all water-based products when spraying..although sometimes we will leave all the pre-primed doors until everything else is fully completed, then mask a whole room off (or two) and then airless spray 2 coats of water based satin or gloss to all the doors..very quick and a great finish....I have watched lots of airless spray painting videos on youtube, connected with the building industry obviously, and I have to say yours is easily the best!...Very well explained, concise and to the point and for the first time in ages, a guy that can actually spray properly (walk the walk), professional and the proper technique and execution...a great job done sir! and very good advice given and your technique was so good, it was a pleasure to watch...believe me, I have seen many videos on this subject on youtube, that have been painful to watch, performed by people who simply haven't got a clue..sometimes I just can't believe what I'm witnessing.....anyway, you did a really professional job and the doors had a great finish with the first coat...such a refreshing change to see someone do a proper spray job!...I just subscribed

You can also stack the doors on their sides up against each other to spray the tops in the bottoms and 1 shot first. In all the years I've been painting I'm never once had an issue with doors warping without having a tops and bottoms painted. This is the fastest method and most efficient to do a high number of doors. If you have the Room just do the accordion method

Best to use the stack racks they avoid runs and the possibility of hitting the ceiling. Then you have to flip the doors so more hand contact. the Stack racks work well well.
@artisonspaintingremodeling6 жыл бұрын
When we flip the doors we only touch the 5 gallon stick without touching the doors. Does the rack mar the door surface being it is still curing, I would imagine spraying 2 coats wouldn't allow the doors to be done in a day. We never have sag or run issues.

That's not an HVLP machine, that's an airless gun you're using and it sounds like my Titan 440 airless rig. In my experience I've found that airless gives a superior finish to HVLP when spraying thick viscous coatings like enamels & latex even with a wet extender added HVLP dries it too fast causing a sandpaper finish, so you're using the right tool-just the wrong title
@artisonspaintingremodeling6 жыл бұрын
scottsaustin It is a Graco FinishPro II 395 PC Air-assisted Airless Sprayer. It has an HVLP on the unit and also an airless 395 sprayer. For this video I'm using the airless at a low pressure with a 311 tip. I agree about liking the airless finish for enamel and latex paints. The best for cabinets are rac x fine finish 310 tips and I like the output of the 311 for doors and trim.
@scottsaustin6 жыл бұрын
oh, ok, gotcha not familiar with that product, but I just acquired a FinishPro HVLP 9.5 for pre-cats with cabinets. I checked out the Graco vid on the 395 and have to say I'm a bit envioius, kind of feel like I should've bought that instead-but-still-looks like you've got a use more product with that machine to prime the pump & line and get the coating to the gun than a cup attached HVLP unit, so I'll stick with it, but I see the value in the 395 none the less and will probably be selling off my 440 and other airless rigs for one of those soon ;) And yes, I like using the Rac X FFLP green tips, but the last job I used a FFLP 208 on the cabinents and a 210 on a some narrow baseboards and the rest of the door frames and sills in the rest of the house, the 14 doors I shot with a FFLP 310 and I shot the ceilings with a Titan 517 (I've got so many brand new ones lying around that came with guns) and primed the drywall & texture in a bathroom with a Rac X 515
@artisonspaintingremodeling6 жыл бұрын
I like the fine finish tips and the rac x last longer than the rac v tips. I sprayed 350 cabinet doors for Owens Corning's labs and the tip still works great and uses a minimum amount of paint.

@ger8082 жыл бұрын
Go for it ...the key to all this is the prep the spraying is the easy part ...what he failed to mention a d what's a crucial point to any good sprayer is the speed of your passes and also another crucial factor is the product your going to use , some of them finished are not suitable for spraying so always make sure to ask at your supplier of paint,is this product suitable for spray finishing with an airless type sprayer ! Also sometimes there is a requirement to thin your paint slightly so it passes through the machine easier . But what they never tell you is when you use a solvent to thin your paint like white spirit , it actually sets the dry time off way quicker , which in itself can be a great thing, the downfall to this it effect the overall look or finish of the paint so it can reduces the sheen slightly , a pro would notice that the normal Joe may not so if it's a high gloss finish your after I suggest using an additive instead of the spirit like using owatrol oil , you will maintain that glassy look using that , and the same with the softer looks like satin or eggshell

Good video. Imagine if you had to paint all those doors with say a 2 inch brush and a 4 inch roller - an undercoat and 2 topcoats. If you're getting that kind of work these spray guns pay for themselves in a few months don't they? You have to learn how to use them of course. And the finish, beautiful.

Time saving is big but the smooth finish is the main reason I use airless for spraying door. I recently bought a nice 15 year old house that had all the interior trim sprayed. But for some crazy reason the previous owner decided to repaint the metal front door with a brush. Painting a wood grain door with a brush can look ok if one uses a good brush and only paint with the wood grain. But painting a flat metal door with a brush, no matter how expensive the brush, can only turn out ugly to my eyes. So I sanded the door down to remove the brush lines and sprayed it. Now the first impression given by the front door matches the smooth spray finish of the interior trim and doors.

Any tips on spraying 3 interior doors outside that were stripped and sanded to bare wood?

@@artisonspaintingremodeling awesome tips! Thank you! I had to rush 2 coats of Bullseye 123 using a 12" HVLP sprayer, too wide of a tip but its all HD had to rent. Waited 12 hours then did the last 2 final coats of satin enamel ~2 hours apart for the final coat. Wish I sanded after primer and had a smaller tip. Setting the doors up next to each other was way better than flipping them on a sawhorse. Do it.
