Thank you, my problem was they reprogram after about 10 seconds but as you said a new fob takes at least 20 seconds to program. Fixed it

I personally went to o reillys to order a dorman key fob for my 2001 gmc yukon i did all the steps after the turn key part the fob wont pair. Am i doing it wrong or is that fob not good

If you just did the pieces after the ignition steps you didn't put the car into program mode. The steps with the ignition and unlock button needs to be completed to begin programming. If you followed the steps exactly it's possible you have a bad remote or possible with the truck itself.

common things to start with if you can't get into programming mode: - door open (all the doors need to be closed) - people start the engine and turn off the car, but the key just needs to get to the on position. -The on/off sequence and release of the lock button is done too slowly Those are the procedure things I see done wrong when helped out other friends. From here it becomes technical troubleshooting. Simple Issues: Bad Door close switch/sensor (truck isn't recognizing the door is closed), Bad lock switch (if the lock button doesn't work, the sequence won't work), if you never had a working FOB, the security system might just be an issue (I've never had to troubleshoot that one yet, but can be a cause). If you get into the programming mode, but the fobs don't work, they probably aren't the right model.

Doesnt seem to work for either of my new FOB's :( I purchased one a couple years ago for my 2002 Yukon and it worked great. Same set up as you described for the 2001. But nothing happens this time :(

@@DriverJsGarage They are after market I guess from eBay. I have bought two in the past and they both worked fine but one got crushed and the other is now having issues. So I ordered two more. It is the two newer ones that seem to not wwork.

I have a 2001 GMC Yukon and programmed the 4 passenger doors but it did not program the cargo doors . Is there different programming for them - or did I have a different program with the cargo doors ?

I assume since you said cargo DOORS that you mean rear barn doors and not a lift gate. Mine don’t work either, but… they also didn’t work with a button inside either. IMine at least seems to be a wiring or door side issue. I’ve yet to have time to troubleshoot it further.

If the Yukon does not lock and unlock during the initial step, any ideas what to do? I hear an initiation sound, but the locks stay in the unlocked position.

If the power lock buttons work I would guess incompatible remote or not being held long enough, but hard to diagnose without it in hand

I forgot to also mention that it's also possible if the remote is new it may not have a battery, some kind of plastic protector to keep the battery from being used before sold, or a dead battery. As a growing complexity it could also be a bad receiver in the truck.

There are a lot of things it could be. Start with the simple, take the FOBs to an auto parts store, most of them have a device that can see if the FOBs are putting out a signal and have working batteries. From there, it gets more complicated, but I would imagine if the truck enters programming mode that the issue is with the fobs themselves (wrong fob for the type of truck, bad fob, bad battery).

Without seeing exactly what is happening, and what fob you have, and knowing if anything else in the system is good I would recommend.... 1. If the FOB is not the factory original you got with the truck, you may need to figure out if it's actually a compatible FOB (Google is your friend here). 2. Take the FOB to an O'Riellys, Advanced, AutoZone. Most of those stores will have a FOB tester that can show if your FOB is putting out a signal. It's a simple thing you can do there. If it fails this, try a new battery in the FOB, if it still fails with a new battery you have a bad fob 3. If the FOB tests good, and the Serial number shows it's compatible with your truck, then there is probably more of an issue going on with the truck, try the procedure again and if it doesn't work, my next recommendation would be take it to a trained mechanic / the dealer and have them look at it. I've never seen this generation of Yukon not program when using the steps from the video, with good FOBS so I've never had to troubleshoot the other side of it.

I tested both fobs and showed that both worked. ( I did call each fob by a different name though. I referred to the 2nd programmed key as the first key (which is true, because it's actually my primary key for the Yukon) and tested it whilst it was still in the ignition. The second set I hold up is the first set that was programmed (has multiple keys / fobs on the ring and not just the Yukon key and fob)

1. Is your truck a 2000-2006 Tahoe/Yukon/Sierra/Silverado? 2. Is the remote battery good 3. Do you have the correct remote control? 4. Did you follow the steps exactly? 5. What step of my instructions is where things stopped working? Keep in mind "Didn't work for me" means almost 0 when you don't elaborate on what part didn't work, and I have no other specifics to help you triage with.
