How To Program A Universal Garage Door Opener Keypad

Very quick video on how to program a universal garage door opener keypad. This is the Chamberlain KLIK2-U keypad. We programmed this to a purple button Liftmaster screw drive.
** For Genie openers you may need to hit the “0” key twice for it to sync **
Check out the chart in the video to see which ID / code (this is so your keypad is running the correct frequency) your opener is and just use that instead of the number I used. Otherwise it isn't too difficult to do as you saw. (:

Thank you so much for this video. It was literally the only comprehensive video I found online. I was searching so many sites until I found this video. Now I can utilize my garage keypad. Pro tips: 1) Wait for the lights to stop flashing after hitting “#” & “*” to enter your code. 2) If successful your light bulb will flash to acknowledge you’ve successfully programmed the keypad. Then if you hit any button the door will engage. So I hit the garage door button on the inside of the garage then I stepped outside. Now enter your code followed by 0 and it should work. You usually have about 15 seconds in case you needed to stop it. Otherwise it would make it a pain to type the code every single time

great video, thank you ! My 9v battery dies every couple of years and I need to reprogram the keypad. Just a word of advice - sometimes my 2006 Chamberlin opener needs to be "rebooted" for this process to work. All you need to do is unplug it, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in. Also, my 2006 Chamberlin has a white button but it still takes code #3. I think the button may have originally been purple and may have just faded to white. Either way, #3 worked. Also, my unit shows a year of manufacture (2006) on it's sticker, so that was handy to know. Yours probably will, too.

I must have some sort of alien garage door opener because this thing isn't communicating with my new remote. The instructions are right there! The old remote works fine! Thanks for the tips. I have tried the same instructions in the past but for type 2. It worked every time. This time it's not working. The light doesn't flash when you press pin and 0. This they aren't synced. What can be off? Nothing changed except may be battery for keypad is running low?

Could be too many items programmed to the opener and it doesn’t want to accept anymore items. It’s also possible the logic board is out too. You can try to erase and reprogram but you might end up losing everything. If it doesn’t re program it’s the board for sure

@@GarageDoorGuidance I did erase by pressing the orange button for a long time. I was easily able to program the garage door clicker so I know the sync works. Something is up with the door keypad unit that I can't explain. Eg. If you press * and # together, and program the 4 digit code etc, I do see the orange light indicator. However, I am unable to the light to flash at step 3/4. That sync won't happen

Problem I have is my opener is “xtreme garage” brand, it has a yellow button but was manufactured in 03 which doesn’t match any of those codes

You’re going to have to use an original, I believe those are made by guardian and universals do not work with those units. ( they’re trash in my experience, have nearly the most issues compared to all the other openers )

Hello Sheri, in my experience I’ve known the green button to have the most bad receivers of all the units. The only options are to replace the logic board. The part costs over $100 usually. I normally would say it’s better to invest that $100 into a new one. This is all especially true if the openers remotes don’t sync

There is a limit of how many remotes can be programmed so if you’ve reached the limit I can see how your last two would have trouble syncing. As you mentioned erasing and starting from scratch would be my advice (:

Trying to sync with the garage door opener does nothing. The garage door opener does not flash or click when I press and release the green button then enter the code into the remote followed by 0. I've also tried holding the zero after the code and pressing the zero twice. Nothing!

@@DonJohnson-sp4gr when you’re holding the button your overriding the sensors in order to close it. At the same time the keypad won’t work at all then. Yes at the base of the railing
