How to program the Fleck 5600 Econominder in details: 1 - You need to know the hardness of your water. Mandatory. I have used Home Depot's free test for water hardness. 2 - You need to know the grain capacity of your water softener system (32K, 40K, and so on). Mandatory. 3 - You need to open the documentation for Fleck 5600 and calculate the index depends on the water hardness and number of members in family. 4 - You need to run the regeneration. Put a water softener cleanser in the white tube to make sure all is clean. 5 - After that (2-3h), the white dot will be at the start point. Set the calculated number. That's it. My case: 32K system. Family of 4. 15GPG hardness (Florida). I have a mechanical Fleck 5600EM and can set only time and index. No water hardness parameter is available to set. (32000/15) - (75 x 4) = 1833 It means 1833 gallons of used water between regenerations. I have set 18. After the full loop of the white dot, the regeneration process will be started automatically.

Btw, best explanation I've seen so far for this meter given it doesn't have the Hardness dial on it. I'm in the same situation; Los Angeles, family of 4, 15GPG, ~80gal/day with a 32K setup

Please help me here. So does it mean that you have aligned 18 to the white dot? When the full loop is done, does it mean the white dot, the black pointer (reverse tringle shape next to the Capacity letter), and the number 18 are all aligned?

@@jamrat1000 Yes, I can't. This device counts the gallons only and does the regeneration. All calculations need to be done by self. When you set the hardness level, those calculations are done by device.

@@hook772 Sorry for late response. Yes it does. You set 18 and the counter goes back to zero. After that the regeneration and the process will start again from 18 to 0.

Just bought a house with a Myers softener.. I belive there is was set on 2 gallons a minute... the service light was on bit now it's off... service light was on aswell.. what cycle s should I run threw it to make sure it operating properly

Unfortunately, since everyone has different water, it would be nearly impossible to make a video describing how to program your valve based on your specific water quality. Water softeners and other filtration are not one-size-fits-all. This video is just showing you how to operate the different functions on the valve, so that when you find out how it should be set, you know how to do it. There's a formula, but you'll have to do some of the work. Take the grains of the softener (most of them are 32,000, but that may not be your case) and multiply by 75% (if yours is 32K, then you'll get 24,000). Then divide that by the 35 grains you just said (I divide by 14, since that's the hardness around my area), and subtract 75 per person in your house. With your numbers, and assuming 32K, you get: 32000 * .75 = 24,000 24,000 / 35 (water hardness in grain) = 685 gallons 685 - 75 = 610 gallons -- (just for yourself -- if you're married and have 2 kids, then it'd be 685 - 300) The marks on the wheel are in gallons * 100, so you'd set the little white dot somewhere between 6 and 7 on the OUTER part of the wheel (mine has all these other numbers in the middle). When you say it's set to regenerate at 5.....it's not 5 gallons dear, it's 500 gallons.....so every 500 gallons used the system would be refreshed with brine. Christ, I fix C.T. scanners and x-ray equipment and know nothing about water softners (that's why I watched this) but even I know that if it was 5 gallons you would regenerate after flushing the toilet two or three times. Thanks anyway.

Our dial says x100 on it...meaning 5x100=500. The directions that came with our Fleck were terrible. KZbin videos are a great help....there are several of them for the Fleck unit. We're having a problem with too much water in the brine tank after shutting off the unit for 8 months and the salt bridged. Broke up as much as we could but did not remove all of it because it still softens. Figure the salt crystalized in the lower brine tank and the tube is blocked. We'll figure it out. Refuse to call the installer unless necessary.
