So I thought I'd report back a month after I tried this... Without using the growth hormone I cut off some shoots and stuck them in water - within 2 weeks the aerial roots grew pretty long and strong - and after 3 weeks I potted them. They are all healthy and growing new leaves, so it was a success 🙌. Thanks again for the brilliant instructions!

Is it required to use the rooting hormone? Because I just placed my cuttings straight into water.
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 5 жыл бұрын
No, it is not required. I is supposed to promote quicker and healthier roots. I should do a comparison video to see which one grows faster and has larger roots.
@robertbatiz3095
@robertbatiz3095 4 жыл бұрын
Not required for water or soil but definitely suggested if planting directly in soil it helps to prevent disease bacteria and rot when you place it in water you should be changing or water every one to two days more if needed dipping in a rooting hormone when water propagating in my opinion is wasteful. And depending on the ingredients of your rooting hormone it can cause problems where you would have to change the water more often because it's now dirty with the rooting hormone and can cause bacterial growth.

Assuming you are propagating in water then into soil....are you keeping the soil well watered so the roots don't dry out? I always keep the soil well watered for about the first two weeks then slowly cut back on watering to a regular watering schedule so those water roots don't dry out and transition to soil.

I had propagated the related Pothos by cutting the vine into segments with one node having one leaf and some root. I cut above and below but close to the node. All cuttings rooted and sent new shoots from the node. Does it work equally for this Monstera?
@EverythingPlants
@EverythingPlants 5 жыл бұрын
I have only done the stem cuttings, but I would say yes....this would work with single leaf cuttings as long as there are aerial roots. I might have to experiment with this method for a future video. I recently made stem and single leaf cuttings on a cebu blue pothos and all rooted nicely.
